This thread is funny. Really. Rod bolts usually carry over 200,000 lbs of shear strength. Running out of oil and then saying that the engine isn't designed to withstand the power that it produces is contrarian.
Either a rod broke or you ran out of oil. You can't pick both. It's clear that you suffered oil starvation and not that the engine was faulty. If the rod ends weren't designed well there would be thousands of failures not 100 or fifty, or 3 or however many there were.
Also, since I'm on a roll here (as a troll) new engines are always high on oil consumption. The rings aren't seated!!!! For anyone to say that "new engines shouldn't need oil checks" is simply wrong.
Consumption issues will usually go away when the engine is fully broken in.
I just get pissed when I read about some of mitsu's policies regarding warranty. Owners have to realize that while these policies are intended to keep them in business, they are strict because there are thousands of people trying to rip them off.
