Sorry Guys, been away a bit. The Typhoon makes provisions for the stock valve in its' stock location. If this aftermarket valve is placed in the stock position, then it should work with the Typhoon...

Question

Is anyone not K&N sponsored running one of these yet? Experience any truly noticeable gains, dyno or seat-O-pants? How about the leaning out question… I still have not seen an answer for that one?

I was about to order a K&N panel replacement, but will now wait to hear some unbiased feedback on this new intake system.

TIA,
Jason

so in this case, the difference between the aem filter and the k&n typhoon is that the aem has the metal heat shield and the k&n has carbon fiber??

Yep, and I have been running them on all my vehicles for years. I am not doubting that K&N makes great products.

However, I do want to know from unbiased sources if the "EVO Typhoon" system is really worth (in HP gains) the extra money over the panel drop-in replacement. I have read about the leaning out issue with many of the cold air cone intake systems on the EVO, and want to know if that may be the case here too.
In addition, many in the Mercedes tuning arena have had issues with the oil from the K&N corroding the MAS element leading to failure (although the Benz MAS are very prone to failure anyway). I ran a huge cone in my custom turbo MB, and never personally experienced the corrosion problem/failure.

I had an open air filter on for a few weeks before. It always got WET from the Seattle weather. Soon as I found that out, I switched back to the stocker, where it wouldn't be breathing any more water in.

Jason8, forgive my stupidity...what exactly is the 'leaning out' issue most have spoke of? Could you give a description of what you mean? Anyone?

the CF looks sweet. I want just the drop in myself but am opting for this for the CF and a little more recirc sound. no one has experienced any louder BOV in drop in at all right ?

Installed mine last week. Sounds great. Haven't been on the rollers yet, but feels like better throttle response down low in the rev range. It seems to have the same overall output as my K&N panel filter, but sounds better.

I'd like to see a picture of the silver intake pipe vs the polished aluminum
