Oil pressure question going from 10w-30 to 20w-50

I have a recently built 2.1 liter 4g64.

Before I was running Mobil 1 EP 10w-30.

At idle the gauge said about 25 psi. Anything out of idle it would be around 65psi.

I recently switched to Vavoline vr1 20w-50 because of some people recommending it to me for a built motor.

At idle the gauge said about 55 psi. Anything out of idle it would peg the gauge at 100psi.

Any thoughts?? Should I be worried?

did you remove the balance shafts from your new engine?? This will make noticeably higher oil pressure. 55psi at idle is pretty darn high tho if its warmed up. It would be interesting to put 10 30 into the built engine to compare, regardless its gonna be higher than it was on the stock engine with balance shafts.

A thicker oil will always increase pressure

Balance shafts are gone.

I had 10w-30 in the same engine. My results are posted in the first post..

good to know valvoline can make that big a difference. I will have to try that with an engine that has less than 15psi at idle.

in you case i would be weary. thats really high oil pressure. you could spin a bearing with pressure that high.
25psi at idle makes me happy. about 80psi at redline is about normal.

I forgot some more important information.

I am running the AMS oil pan with their tank scraper and modded pickup. It holds 6.5 quarts of oil...

Very nice choice on oil pan. I hope do get one for my project 4. It wouldnt have any affect on oil pressure though.
I would play it safe and go back to a thinner oil.
