Does your catch can setup have a breather air filter? I am thinking you probably have a closed-loop catch can setup. The crankcase pressure is building up and no where to go. You are getting blow-by around 6,000 RPM when you shift, right? Not sure how this effects HP.

If you do it could be damged and clogging your exhaust. And if you check everything and nothing is wrong get a new tuner before you need a new motor.
Bosco,

Are you saying that blow-by is caused by the o-rings not being seated correctly against the cylinder walls? Or, you are listing possible causes for low HP numbers? If the o-rings are not seated correctly, wouldn't it show up as lower compression test pressure?

Thanks,

Jay

I disagree. The dip-stick blowing out doesn't necessarily mean that the rings aren't sealing. Its from the higher pressures of a having a built motor... if you don't have a catch can that is vented its probably because of that. You can either get a vent or buy a spring to hold it down.

Like I said, if your shop can't diagnose the problem or isn't familiar with EVO's find a new shop. Better to wait and have it done right then have your investment going down the drain.

First thing I would do is a boost leak test. Who wired up the Haltech? Reason I asked? How are the triggers set up? How does the timing table look?
Start from the basic.
Verify timing, boost leak test to 30 psi and do it through the intake,
smoke test from the exhaust,
Do you have a graph you can post?
Can you email me your tune file?

I will have to get with my tuner for the charts but for the haltech i ordered the patch loom so no wiring except for the IAT sensor and MAP sensor. I am almost certain its not tuning and so was Robert from FP but could be wrong. I am about to do a leak down test now I have veriffied the timing already. I have never done a smoke test????

Look up my vids on YouTube. I have one from an Sti with a bad leak on the uppipe.
I don't have the link but it's under rsmotorsinc username
have you verified the timing?
Low 300 with fp black, I would think it's something obvious. I would even just put the stock ecu back in. I like Haltech's new units but I honestly don't think you need it for your set up.

Dwell time on Haltech needs to be adjusted most of the time. It can drive people nuts if not set correctly.

I just finished doing the leak down test and results are as follows:

Cyl -1(26)
Cyl -2(63)
Cyl -3(62)
Cyl -4(67)

The air was not coming out of the exhaust or intake nor were there any bubbles in the radiator but all the air seeping through cyl 2-4 was from where the spark plug goes in. I am thinking head gasket maybe???

I agree with the guy before, see if KevinD can help, he only works on EVO's and knows where every single bolt goes on the car.....definately worth the drive IMO

Did you put each cylinder to top dead with the valves closed when you did the leak down?

No cat the dp has a flex section I pulled it off the car and shined a light through it no problems at all also ran a tennis ball through it with no problems as well as the rest of the exhaust. A local machine shop did the work on the head and block they have a pretty good reputation around here and I know the guy personally he as a 4g63 as well and was very knowledgeable during the build
