500 miles of granny driving. right? also what is the point to break in an engine. I know how it works for clutches but why engines? This is my first brand new engine type of car.

thanks on the luck but it was stuck in legal dispute for almost a year. that part wasnt lucky. the crankwalk wasnt either. But it came out all better this way.

from what i read

General rule is not to exceed 3000 - 3500 rpm. for the first 500 miles. It is also a good idea to be kind to it for the first 2000 miles ( but what are the chances of that ).

Break in is important. All engine bearings and cylinders, etc. must wear evenly and proper. Also, piston rings need to seat. Have you ever seen a new engine burn oil until it breaks in? Some piston ring take up to 5000 miles to fully seat or wear evenly to cylinder bore. Not following proper break in procedures could result in premature engine/parts failure.

Basically you start off treating the engine very gently i.e. gentle revs and never more than 1/4 throttle. Over time you gradually use more revs and more throttle until you eventually end up using the full range of the engine. It is important to eventually end up using all the power and rev range to wear harden various parts. It is also important that you do not keep to a single continuous speed or gear but vary your speed quite a bit during this time (a long highway journey is NOT a good break in if you just sit in top gear at a continuous speed). This is because things are still hardening up and you can wear a groove into them.

break in period is controversial. Ask alot of good tuners. They will tell you to check for leaks then run the **** out of it. It helps the rings to seat better and faster.

First 20 miles are the most important. Search motoman engine break-in.

If you can afford it, do drop in rods, and pistons w/ bolts.

Don't believe the engine break-in bull****. You essentially want to seat the rings as soon as possible. You want the rings to wear in first, instead of the cylinder walls. The key is to seat the rings right out of the box, this must be done in a timely, yet structured manner and it will not happen if you baby the engine. Read the link above and beat the **** out of your car as soon as it warms up.

Wow your my hero!!! You'll have to PM me with the details of how you won this epic battle. My extended warranty company wouldn't even cover my leaking exhaust manifold.

thx for all the advice. its a little mixed but seating the rings seems to be the most important thing to do. and thats whats gonna happen.

btw has anyone done this? the motoman way with his break in secrets? everything seems ok until it gets to the whole after the 20 miles of hard accel and decel change the oil to a non-synthetic oil for 1500 miles. Is this really a good idea?

as for my story on the extended warranty ill pm you as soon as i can. its kinda long.
