Nitrous + E85

Im currently running E85 with a stock turbo, cams, and every bolt on. My car made 415whp, 410 ftlb on a 30psi spike via 3rd gear. I am looking at putting a wet 50 shot on my car. My question is if this will be too much for the stock block and head to handle. I know people have made a lot of horsepower but the torque spike is what has me wondering. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Turn your boost down and reduce some timing...you'll be good to go!!!!

Do you think it would pick up more power on say 24psi with a 50 shot and e85? I'd assume it would pick up some power but would it be worth the additional expense of installing a good kit?

I am with this man right here. The torque that that 50 shot will give you will be a serious issue for your rods. Hey, if you have the money to build it up, do it and see how it goes. Just be prepared to shell out some serious cash to fix what you broke.

agreed^^^, your already putting enough pressure on the stock block with e85, adding nitrous to the mix wouldnt do your block any good.

Nitrous + E85 + 30psi + 17* + stock block = BOOM, NO JOKE

yeah if he had a built motor and a tuner that knew what he was doing, I'd say go for it

I just don't see the point in adding a second power adder. Why not use that cash and save a little more. Then you can build your motor and do it right.

The limit of the stock block is not determined as much by horsepower as by torque. And the rule of thumb that I have been told to abide by is 400-450ft/lbs is the max for the stock short block. You are already in that area. Add to that Nitrous adds more torque than HP, especially on E85, I wouldn't be surprized to see 75ft/lbs on a 50 shot.

Based on the fact you are spiking to 30psi on the stock turbo to get 410ft/lbs, and your horsepower is only 415whp I can say that you are just choking up top. *If* you could maintain that 30psi to redline you would be well over 500whp, probably close to 530whp.

If you were to do a full wet kit with all the required safety items, (FPR switch, ignition retard, RPM window switch, nitrous pressure switch, bottle heater) you are looking at $1200 on the cheap end. If you do a no safety install (which is probably what you are thinking), you can do it for about $500. This assumes you are doing it yourself and not paying for the install/tune.

What you should do with that $1200 + install + tune money is just go and get an FP Red, bolt it on, and have it tuned. If you buy one slightly used the money will even out. And you will have more HP than you originally wanted, will be safer, and not have to worry about bottle temp, nitrous level, etc.

Change your rod bolts with ARPS - turn the boost up or add the shot!

I wouldnt suggest runnig high boost with nitrous if u r gona do it dont run past 24psi use good gas 100 min or e85 get tunned and make sure the tunner retards ur timming for the nitrous. Also you will need to change the sparkplugs too sum colder ones and also keep n mind since the timing s going 2 be retarded you will lose power and the car will only run good wen the juice s on. On the plus side running juice gives u the advantage of instant hp and torque so it would make a huge diference on the launch, I would know i ran 150 shot wet n my h22a for 2 years and boy does it kick wen you push the button. Oh yeah 1 last thing run the wet system with a single fogger is the best bet.

Too much cylinder pressure = worn down rings.

You'll start to get some blowby after your first couple of bottles.

^^ agreed, I'm running nitrous on my firebird because there aren't any serious power adders for an LT-1 to be had without shelling out serious cash; there's so much else to do with an evo that I wouldn't even consider it until you're out of easier, more reliable ways to tack on the power.
