? regarding FMIC upgrade for road courses

I race about once a month at willow springs a 1.8 mi road course. Would an upgraded intercooler ie buschur, and upper intercooler piping affect the driving style of the evo? I have heard both arguments that it adds HP and doesnt drop as much boost, but on the other hand it can increase lag and what not.

Any thoughts on this for racing purposes????

This is also my daily driver.

Thnx
Danny

Our FMIC will not kill response. The car drives like stock but spools up faster than stock. We have also managed to increase the airflow to the radiator, this is great for guys like you doing road racing.

The upper intercooler pipe kit we build has 6 less bends than stock and is 16" shorter. The lower pipe that comes with the FMIC is 20" shorter than stock and had 5 less bends. In all you have 11 less bends and 36" less for the charge air to go to reach the engine. This is why the spool up is not hurt.

Thanks for considering us,

This sounds cool. But I have to ask ( and I'm sure it has been asked before, so don't hate on me everybody ),
with less bends, what needs to be moved/replaced/modified to accommodate the piping ???

TIA

For the FMIC kit the shorter plumbing requires NO modifications. The undertray on the car has to be either trimmed or you can heat it with a heat gun to get the FMIC itself in there. Very easy to do, no adverse effects. The upper i/c pipe kit requires our lightweight battery kit to be used. This will eliminate 20 more pounds from the front of the car and it allows for the routing of the shorter plumbing to the intake.

Dave,

I also have a question about your intercooler piping. Do you think it will make it past a Cusco induction pipe?

Thanks,

Greg

Dave- I e-mailed you, but maybe you could answer on here for everybody. Does the upper IC tubing come with the BOV in the picture or will my forge recirc BOV fit on there????

Oh, my bad. I guess I should have mentioned I road track my car about once a month, and that I am also planning on upgrading my IC to the Buschur unit. Not to mention Dave has supplied most of the parts on my car. Finally, no, I'm not jacking your post. Calm down buddy.

Damn, everyone's here to learn, why all the hate? Chill.

And if you'd do some research on your own and go to his website, you'd find the answer you're looking for:
http://www.buschurracing.com/cgi-bin....cgi?18X376545

I quote:

This is a pic of our prototype upper intercooler pipe kit for the new EVO 8. These pieces are currently in production and will be available shortly. This intercooler pipe is made of mandrel bent 2.5" 304 stainless steel and is available polished or powdercoated gloss black. Our upper intercooler pipe upgrade eliminates 6 bends and 16" of length thereby reducing the flow restriction (less length, less bends, less restrictive flow). This kit will necessitate running the mini battery kit that we have available. We have also upgraded the bov to the high quality valve found on the 1G cars. Also pictured here is our new MAF intake pipe assembly, also made of 3" mandrel bent 304 stainless steel.

David, There is likely some ill effect if the underbody tray is cut. The interruption of airflow under the front of the car most likely will increase front end lift at higher speeds. The best solution is heating the tray to fit the intercooler, but even then how much does it have to poke down? 1 inch, 1 cm, more, less??

I am not bagging, just wondering how much the undertray has to change.
