Assuming your rings are toast in that cylinder, then you should be seeing oil consumption, and then a corresponding reduction in power.

Yes, you're at least being robbed of power in that down cylinder, since the fuel that's being ignited is not all being used to force the piston back down, as some of it is certainly escaping around the poor ring seal.

The bigger question that needs to be answered is how the rings failed in that cylinder to begin with. Hopefully it's nothing major so you can have the shop do a simple hone job, fit it with some better rods and pistons, and then get back to having fun with it.

It could also be bad cam timing. Has you or someone else messed with the timing belt at all?

That would also affect all 4 cylinders instead of just one.

How much does this usually cost in labor?

The charge to hone it is cheap, i.e. less than $100. It's all of the other stuff that adds up if you pay them to do it, like disassembling the block, balancing the crank to the lighter pistons, etc. So, the cost really depends on how much of it you can do yourself.

Yes, but one is considerably lower(at least 15%) than the other 3. Cams, timing, etc. could all potentially lower the compression, but it wouldn't account for one cylinder being that far off from the other three.

That sounds like a full bottom end rebuild, not including parts, correct?

if i remeber correctly , ans someone correct me if im wrong , if u have lower compression on 1 cylinder , and u add oil and the compression goes up , then its the rings...

if u add the oil and the compression dosent go up at all then , problem with your valves

That's my understanding too.

Yes, either the valves or the HG.

I have a friend that had weird compression numbers because his cams where off, and the were big 280's. Make sure your timing is correct. Also do that oil trick.
