First gear shift Thud
hey guys thought I'd mention it cause I *had* similar problems like those posted here ie; grinds and difficulty shifting no matter how carefully I tried to coax it. My car currently has 2,000 miles on it. The first 800 were fine with no problems. Shortly thereafter the symptoms began to appear, it didn't matter weather it was cold or hot, but it was a tad smoother when hot. So next thing to do was drop the fluids which I planned on doing just not so soon. What I found was that only 2 quarts were in the tranny. That's 1 quart too low and most likely contributed to the symptoms. I also checked the transfer case and rear diff by removing the fill plug to see how full they were. What I found was that they weren't completely topped off, which was verified once I drained them out. They were not alarmingly low like the tranny, but low nevertheless. Anyhow, I replaced them with Redline fluids and all is good now. I'm sure Redline probably contributes to the smoother action, but having low fluid levels to begin with was probably a major contributor to the problems. I'm just glad I caught it early on. Those that have not changed out the factory fluids yet many at least want to check to see if they're topped off at the fill plugs.
