Safe A/F ratio for dynotune?

So I'm getting my car dynotuned with a wb02 in about two weeks - I was wondering what a safe ratio would be?

Mods:
HKS DP
JIC catback
GReddy ProfecB SpecII EBC
SAFCII

I've kinda tuned the EBC myself but I'll have them take a look to double check it, and I'm using a fairly conservative baseline SAFCII tune.

I was thinking of shooting for ~11.0, would it be wise to lean it out any further than that? Also, for those that have gotten their SAFC's tuned, are there any dips/peaks typica of the Evo powerband that I should be aware of just to make the tuning job easier?

IMHO 11.0 i a very good point

I run my car at that level

You CAN mak a bit more power leaner - BUT on the stock ecu the knock sensor will start to pick up come noise and pull timing effectively negating that extra power

Some other tuners de-sensitize the knock sensor to get around this - which results in very severe engine wear and a shorter enine life span - detonation - no matter how slight is very destructive

Thanks Al!

I was wondering, on a typical dynotune, do they monitor knock while tuning? Or ignition timing etc.? Otherwise, just making sure the A/F ratios are safe may not necessarily get the best tune...

Al youve said you run 10:1 bla bla

Zstryder-
You need something to monitor your ignition advance from your OBDII port. This way you can SEE where you are getting knock by viewing where your timing dips. Theres nothing out yet to monitor knock on the EVO, as there is for the 1G DSM. The easiest thing to buy is a datalogger or a pocket logger peticularly (www.pocketlogger.com) to view your timing advance.

With a good AFR tune and something to see your timing, you can get a very good tune. When your timing drops, give er a splash of fuel with your SAFC, and tune on man!

FYI I run at 11.5 AFR even at 21psi. Why? Because the stock ecu advances timing 21 degrees close to redline. I could even afford to up the boost a tad.

BLA BLA yourself - your ignorance is really beyond my comprehension !

There are many universal knock meters available which will work on any car

Try the Knock Link which you can get from vivid racing and which uses a bosch knock sensor - the whole set up is around the low 200's

I don't have the funds right now to shell out for a pocketlogger or a knock sensor, do you think they would dynotune with some sort of knock sensor? It only makes sense, right?

I'm going to Agile Automotive - the place you're going to reflash a bunch of the DCEvo club guys. I was actually gonna show up the same day to check out the reflash action but Agile couldn't fit me in on saturday, so instead I'm heading up there on the 26th.

I emailed Hill to ask about the knock/ignition logging, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet..

they wont have jack. Youll be lucky if they can log AFR based on RPM..

with widebands, yes. You need an Aux input to tap into your RPMs in order to log your RPMs and AFR. I dont know how dyno shops do it like Pruven or anyone. I always see these dyno charts with HP/Torque/RPM/AFR. So you might want to ask DynoNeezy.

I have an LM-1 Wideband and am still waiting on their aux input to log RPMs also. Right now im still playing the guessing game... oh yea it looks like its a little lean here..
