Oil pressure light flickers rolling from dead stop

I have a odd problem on my Evo 8. Sometimes when I release the clutch and start rolling from a dead stop the oil pressure light on the dash will flicker.

It just flashes once or twice and stops once I hit the gas or the car is rolling. Seems to start right at the point at the very end of clutch pedal travel. Does not stay on or come on at any other time.

Looked at the oil levels and they are fine.

Has anyone else had this issue?

If you're slightly bogging the engine upon clutch release, the rpms could drop too low causing a reduction in oil pressure and the flickering light. If its not bogging, it might be the oil pressure sending unit, or, less likely, the oil pump itself.

At this point I would hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge to see what the pressure actually is.

it happens alot to people. What happens it your rpms drop below a certain point causing your oil pressure light to flicker. Nothing to worry about as long as you check your oil regularly.

Speaking of this problem, I've came into this but on the opposite side of it. When using the AC(not MAX ac) as if I was comming to a red light, I'd put it into neutral let's say from like 3rd or 2nd gear, the RPM's drop to like 300, then bounce back up to 900-1000 and within that period the oil light flicker's on and stays, then if I rev it a bit, goes off till the next stop and go..

Only with the AC on tho, could this be a common problem? or is it the fact that the AC system takes so much away, that could cause that issue.

My car does it to. I just bought a new switch to change when I'm doing the oil. Got the piece from napa along with serpentine belt. Hope it fix the problem. Mine does it at a stop and warm outside.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I was getting a little worried since it started not too long ago. I'll try swapping out the switch.

Do I need to empty the engine of oil to install it?

Well. I had this same issue, but mine was a little more serious than those posters above. This was with the 2.0 stock shortblock and I had the same oil light on randomly at a stop rolling or when shifting into first. I discounted it and thought the same thing, bogging the motor and it is causing the drop in oil pressure leading to the light. Well, the oil pressure light came on one day solid, and I couldn't make the drive home. She died turning on to my street. I checked the oil level and everything, everything looked good so I drove it home and was going to rip it apart. Well, it wasn't the sensor or my own doing, the pump randomly gave up the ghost.

Well suffice it to say, I built it and the car is better than ever... Just thought I would play devils advocate and tell you what happened to me when I had this issue...

the light started flickering soon after i spun a rod bearing. But most likely it is the switch or your BoV not recircing and causing low idles after u shift to neutral i believe.
