Looking to make a 600hp EVO VIII...what will it take?
I am new to this forum and I am trying to see if it is feasible to make a RELIABLE, PUMP GAS, STREET CAR that makes 600hp. Has anyone done it yet? I am trying to build a car worthy of some Car mag. competitions. I have done it with other cars, but I am wondering if I am over my head trying to make 600 reliable horsepower with the EVO VIII.
I already found someone to stroke the engine to 2.5L, found someone to build a 6 speed paddle-shift tranny that will easily handle the torque of this car, and found a nice widebody kit will fit 275/40s on all 4 corners for maximizing traction. However, I don't know the limits of the engine or much about anything with this engine.
Need your help!!
Thanks.

right off the cuff i would say buschur's staged series, im guessin the soon to be released stage 5
i think david said the initial manifolds came in, got approval and were being sent back out to be duplicated and he should have 20-25 pieces soon, id wait for that
of course AL is running around 600hp with alot of parts from here and there
and AMS seems to have theirs at around 600 (save blown diffs)
Id wait and see over the next 2 months as most of the tuners will have some nice staged kits finalized, in the hands of users, installed and dynoed. Read their reviews, check installation procedures and follow your heart =)

well you are definitely going to have to upgrade to a better turbo. Right now, the HKS 3037 kit is the one to go with. BUT AMS and Buschar are developing their own brand new turbo setups right now as well. So I would wait a little while.
Brainstorm works close with AVO and other companies that have dealt with modifing an Evo . They have a lot of experience with turbo kits which they have 2 available and way cheaper then the HKS. There both T4 one that will hold over 450hp on pump gas with a stock block and head. An the other which will hold over 560hp which is near your goal , but it does required for the motor to be modified to get the full potential out of it . You should check them out at miata.org and click on there link that they have for the Evo and WRX ....

ALL of the high power cars are using higher octane to make it. It is necessary. The 4G63 is a heavily developed; strong block but it is still only 2 liters. You need better octane to get that kind of performance.

With 101 unleaded though, you can run some crazy lean maps, and get very, very little knock.

Agreed. 380 wheel torque max sounds better. Im sure you could get close to 420/380... Thanks for correcting me and not posting something like Al would-

you're right about that. Mark is a really nice guy, not often seen with shops. Unfortunately high numbers can inflate peoples heads at times.

huge turbo, jun or tomei stroker, jun intake manifold, full exhaust, 1000cc injectors, motec ecu, and few other things and you'll 600hp no problems
