This has been discussed before many times. Yes the block will drop right in. You will need a Evo IX ECU to control the MIVEC, you will also need to run an oil feed from the Evo VIII block to the MIVEC head.

Block off the oil feed hole for the Mivec if you plan to run the VIII head.

It will fit. You have to block off the MIVEC oil feed on the IX block. That is it.

You will need some special items for the 2.4 alone with either the IX or VIII head. Water pump spacer, special timing belt (or if you go OEM you need adjsutable cam gears to make up for the deck height), ported head gasket. Rockman knows all about this one . I ran into some issues too with my 2.1. The 4G64 is less of an issue for the VIII though, just those parts and your done, if its mating up with a IX head then again, you need to run the oil line up the back of the motor...

I sure do buddy on that note ill make a list for each

evo 8 2.4 parts needed

Longer Timing belt(a 4g63 belt will work but you have to stretch it over idler pully) can order proper belt from SBR
Water pump adaptor( Get the adaptor system from SBR or wield it in place you choose)
Adj Camgears(have to adj them 3.75 to make up for the 6mm deck height)
Headgasket you need to get one thats 87mm bore size(horsepowerfreaks.com=powerenterprise or AMS custom 4g64 like i have)

everything else is interchagable from the 4g63 motor

evo 9 2.4 parts needed

Longer Timing belt(a 4g63 belt will work but you have to stretch it over idler pully) can order proper belt from SBR
Water pump adaptor( Get the adaptor system from SBR or wield it in place you choose)
Adj Camgears(have to adj them 3.75 to make up for the 6mm deck height)
Headgasket you need to get one thats 87mm bore size(horsepowerfreaks.com=powerenterprise or AMS custom 4g64 like i have)
Drill a hole in the back of block for the oil feed line for the Mivec in the head.

everything else is interchagable from the 4g63 motor

There you go whats needed on each to get a 4g63 head(evo8,9) to mate with 4g64 block

The 4G64 actually has an oil port on the back of the motor, at least my 2.1 from BR had one. All I had to do was run a -AN fitting from that port up to the oil feed for the IX MIVEC head. I am not sure what this port was initially used for, either an oil pressure sensor or some other type of oil feed, but it can be used as a feed for the head. I double checked this and it runs great on my car. Even double checked to make sure MIVEC was functional during tuning and it was working without a doubt.
