MR no. 6 Speed tranny is weak. 5 Spd is fine as long as you know how to drive. Let me know if I can help at all.

The MR has some nice goodies but a regular GSR is just as good IMO...especially if your just aiming for 450 whp

The MR is worthless and a waste of money. the only difference is if i remember correctly the suspension is blistein, it has bbs rims, a vortex generator, six speed, and a metal diverter valve. to me this is all worthless since most people change all this stuff anyway.

I have an MR. If I could turn the clock back 4 years I would have gotten the GSR. I paid a couple thousand extra for bilsteins that I replaced with the Robispec coilovers, a 6 speed I had to replace with a built Shep 5 speed, a aluminum roof and fog lights.

So probably 4k extra for a roof and extra lights.... at least I can see in the fog though...?

Don't think its worth it, look around and you will see many more problems with the 6 speed, save the extra couple thousand and upgrade the turbo.

GSR FTW... MR with the aluminum roof is the only upside...

This is a tough question to answer since you didn't post what your goals are besides just hitting some arbitrary peak whp number.

That said, if you plan on tracking the car, the excessive heat soak will kill the 4th gear of the 6 speed MR transmission (search if you want more info on this topic) during long events.

If you plan on doing auto-x; I would recommend the 5 speed as the gears are a bit taller so you won't have to be shifting all the time.

Drag racing, it really doesn't matter since you're only doing pulls on the 1/4 anyway.

For just daily driving you'll more than likely see little to no issue with the 6 speed transmission in the MR.

I would suggest looking for an RS if you're serious about performance (it is lacking pretty much all the bells and whistles of all the Evo models) since it comes with factory weight reduction, a 5 speed transmission and additional bars that reduce body flex. If you just want something comfortable and don't care about the 'details' that you get with the MR, I would just find a well maintained GSR and be done with it.

I did about a year of research first before I pulled the trigger - but that's me. I already knew what my goals were (reliable DD with occasional HPDEs thrown in) so that helped me to narrow my search. I went with a GSR SE since it had the 5 speed and came with just about everything the MR had with the exception of the vortex generator and upgraded bilstein suspension.

Both of which were quickly remedied.

From what you just said right there i would state get a gsr. that way you have creature comforts and can still ball. getting 450 with a fp green or fp red will be easy enough.

I'm also one of the "wish i had gotten a GSR" as all the MR extras were either replaced or soon to be replaced....
