Yes. The flange should be machined flat and since the oil pan can have slight surface variations to it you want the raised part facing the pan.

I have also used the paper gasket for both the turbo side and oil pan side. I haven't leaked a drop since day 1.

Alright, sounds good. I had to replace the oil line since there was pin sized hole on it but I never replaced the gaskets which seem to be leaking now. Do you remember which way you installed the paper gasket? Im just assuming the circle around the drain should be facing down towards the return tube.

Yeah, with respect to the paper gasket, the side with the outlined circle faces downward. I saw the factory flyer on this particular detail.

I ended up replacing the gaskets on Saturday and from the looks of it, the rubber washer/gaskets were the issue. The rubber was torn up so I replaced the bolts, gaskets, and rubber washers/gaskets on the oil pan and turbo side and it doesn't seem to be leaking now. I let the car run for a bit while it was up in the air and it didn't seem to leak at all. I'll have to keep and eye on it just to be sure but I hope its good to go. I just wanna thank everyone for the help!

Have your friendly parts guy at the dealership print you the exploded view of the page where all the turbo to drainpipe gaskets, washers and bolts, etc. are represented on his parts computer. This will give you a better idea of what bits you will need to order and how it goes back together upon assembly. The whole shebang will probably cost no more than $12-$15.

Anyone know the part number for the special gasket washers for the return tube bolts (where it bolts to the oil pan)? I'm gonna call mitsu today and try to find out.

Actually just found it. Post # 2571 on this page: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-here-172.html

The part number for the washer seal things are MR497720

is there any washers or seals on the bolts that go into the oil pan?

When I took mine off, there was some sort of sealant on the bolts that goes on the oil pan.

The part number is MR497720. They're just washers that have a rubber seal on them.

I know this is "bringing a thread back from the dead" but for people like me who are searching for the answer to this question and cannot find it, I busted out my old Mitsubishi part number computer and found this:
