Acree's MAP 2.4L FP Black Build
I spoke with Aaron at ER at length today covering setups, numbers, theories, etc. I will be running with their custom profile S2's, but there is a lot to consider when running these cams. The correct spring/retainer and porting combination is essential due to the limitations of the stock head. My deadline will be pushed back until at least mid September. I would prefer to take the time and do this build the right way from the beginning.
Following Mikey's build religiously, the one thing that keeps coming back to mind is efficiency. 613 awhp at 25 psi is just nucking futs, especially when you see guys running 38+ psi to make the same power. Due to this, I'm going to porting the stock IM, EM, and head, as well as having FP port the black. The added cost is worth it IMO.
Last note for the night, after talking with Aaron, and seeing the post by Mike @ AWD regarding meth injection, I will be running E85 as my primary fuel for the foreseeable future. I will leave the meth kit on the car and have it activate with the 93 map, but the tune will be strictly for 93 without meth. I want the meth there strictly an added but unnecessary safe guard.
Today has been a long day. Apologies if my post runs together.

Really ironic, but...the evo I just bought, its previous owner did the exact same thing
Was running an FP HTA Green on E85. Was doing 70 in 5th and went to pass someone....boom, hole in the block, both sides......carnage was so bad it cracked the t-case and sent something through the turbo

And im glad to see your going to be running e85

I thought about this stuff long and hard last night to the point where I didn't sleep worth a crap. I sat down this morning and put a spread sheet together of all the different cost scenarios and potential gains.
Basically to go all out with porting, new cams, kiggly springs, etc to match Mikey's build, it will run another $2000 approximately. That puts my build another 2 months out. I'm currently driving a 1991 Ford Ranger. To be frank, I want my d@mn car back.
Another consideration is I still have 1.5 years left until I finish out my degree. I'm an electrical engineering student. While I do have a year round internship that pays well, I'm not willing to sacrifice my financial cushion to get another 70hp.
My current plan, is to follow more closely to JohnnySTI's build instead. I'm going to swap out the springs and retainers now, get the exhaust manifold ported, and leave the rest be. Maybe later this fall I can pick up a set of S2's or another set of cams Aaron has up his sleeve (hint hint) that doesn't require such extensive reworking of the head.
That being said, I am going to add the Kiggly Oil Pressure Regulator to my build as I feel that is another necessary safeguard.
Original build list updated.

One of the main goals of this build is maintaining a completely stock look. Therefore I will be sticking with the stock IM and EM. I'll even be utilizing stock heat shield on the turbo and EM.
The Magnus intake would provide nice gains, but it's not the direction I want to go.

Acree you should take alook at my build then. I have been getting conficting information on getting a kiggly unit if its really needed. From what i understood inorder to use those GSC special cams you have to get your pistons cut a certain way. What part of texas are you in exactly?? If you close to San Antonio just stop by JMS and check out my build going on there to get some ideals if you like. I would recommend at least doing all the porting the cams you can change later but if you have to get the piston cut a certain way you need to get that done now if you plan on using those. Is this going ot be a straight drag car??

As far as the Kiggly goes, I'm having oil squirters installed in the block making a solid oil supply all the more needed. It's a small cost compared to the engine for another safeguard. That is justifiable.
Funny you should mention the pistons. MAP is ordering the 10.5:1 pistons from Weisco, and having them able to clear 12.1mm of lift.
As far as drag racing, I believe the TC and trans in this car are both still stock, so I will not be racing it anytime soon. This build is to make the ultimate daily driver for a reasonable price.

I'm in Dallas. San Antonio isn't exactly in "drop by" distance. I would love to see the build though.

So if I ever decide to do the porting/cam combo I'll simply find a IX head somewhere, and have everything done before hand. Therefore, my down time will be minimized.

lol what are you like 2 hours from SA? Ill be heading up that way hitting up my companies and checking on my businesses in the area once i get my car. so you can see it then i have folks in killien that want to ride in it lol. Ill be doing a tranny build later this year not worried about it now mine is perfect. You should consider at least porting your head on of the best things you can do

You will love your new setup. Just remember, to have nice things you have to pay and that means to wait for $$$. I have some of the best part and I'm making the best power per psi in the world on the Black. I think you will be just fine following John's build. Good luck to you man. Aaron is a great guy and will lead you in the right direction. Mikey
