Another quiet exhaust project (BluEVOIX and beyond)
If you don't drive like an ID10T and don't draw attention to yourself, and exhaust that is that quiet will never get "caught".
Besides....I have never met an officer that knows what "other than stock" is on an Evo. They are not car pros. I was pulled over once because of the STOCK WING. My car was stock at the time too. (this was several years ago but still)

If California has a decibel rule, it's more lenient than Virginia. Here's the law in Virginia:
No person shall drive and no owner of a vehicle shall permit or allow the operation of any such vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an exhaust system in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual levels of noise; provided however, that for motor vehicles, such exhaust system shall be of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment. An exhaust system shall not be deemed to prevent excessive or unusual noise if it permits the escape of noise in excess of that permitted by the standard factory equipment exhaust system of private passenger motor vehicles or trucks of standard make.
In court, if you aren't running the stock exhaust you are going to lose a challenge to an exhaust ticket. Sounding stock is the key to avoiding tickets. Sounding soft but aftermarket will get you a ticket. The judge would likely find the sound of a soft aftermarket system to be "unusual."

Here is what quiet sounds like. Notice during acceleration how the 4th sound can be heard so pronounced with the almost non existent exhaust noise. And even more importantly notice when I actually just cruise maintaining speed. There is absolutely no sound. Like I turned off the motor and popped it in neutral. This is quiet. If you can hear the exhaust then its not quiet. Even in videos its hard to tell what is quiet and what isn't. Trust me, the Dynomax Vt is that stock quiet people want. Only problem is it has issues with heavy lope cam'd cars.

That Works IP is interesting. I wonder if that combined with a stock muffler would be quieter than my Buschur DP -> RT HF Cat -> RRE Stealth right now. The RRE has 2 resonators and the Works has 1 but the stock muffler is quieter than the Magnaflow. The question is, is it worth $450 to find out?
I think the problem with the vt muffler and cams is that it makes the exhaust gases pulsate more instead of steadily stream out the exhaust system. I can see how that affects the vt muffler and makes it flap open and closed frequently.
personally im on the fence about the VT mufflers since the cam issue was reported. my car does have hks 272's but the idle is only somewhat lopy. im not sure if ill get the dreaded flapper noise or not.
i might just get one cuz it looks to be quiet for a non cam'd evo
It is the same in Puerto Rico. Paint your muffler flat black.
Maine is starting a new law this week. It was started because of the bikes, but it applicable to cars as well. It reads that you cant have an exhaust louder than stock. But then goes on to say that any exhaust lower than 95 db as measured per the law is exempt. Or I can pay $1 a year for an "occasional racing" permit and have a cut-out with stock cat back...lol.
Do you guys have any idea of db level of these different setups? I honestly have no clue what 95 db sounds like. Im running a 3" BR dp, metallic core HFC, and a BR? cat back with the magnaflow. It isnt terribly loud until I get on it, but no clue whether its close or over 95 db according to the rules. And its never been stock since Ive had it, so no stock parts to throw on
