How to tell if engine is built or stroked?

Hi guys, for a while I have been wanting to know if there is a way to tell if my engine is stroked or built... I bought the car around 2 years ago at a USA online auction a couple years ago (I'm from Panama, central america)... it had quite a bit of great mods including a gt35r.

I had no experience with turbo cars and for some reason the boost controller was probably moved to a very high setting and I wot quite a few times when I initially got the car and it pulled REALLY hard and went to boost cut at around 6.7k rpm... a friend told me stop until I installed a boost gauge, only to find out that it was completely sweeping a 35psi boost gauge (remember it was a gt35r)... So I boosted over 35psi on crappy local 91 octane fuel a LOT of times and engine to the date runs great... I was told by a couple guys that my engine was probably built, others told me stroked, etc etc etc

I know our stock engines can hold a very good amount of power so that is not a way to be sure about it, I removed the gt35 and now have a IX turbo but I'm planning to upgrade in the near future and want to do a good setup built around what my engine has ... so my question is there a way to tell if my engine is built or stroked without completely taking it apart? Maybe by watching logs of runs? or anything else ...

I know it was a long story ... thanks in advance for any help
Alain

did you look for signs of lube or friction marks around the block? Often times after a vigerous stroking there is some left over jelly.

Why not just drop the pan and take a look at the crank and conn rods? Should give you a pretty good indication.

If you had a borescope you could pull a plug and drop the scope in to check the pistons, and pull the turbo drain tube and stick the scope into the pan to check the crank/rods. That way you don't have to tear into your engine.

Not sure I can get my hands on a borescope ... I think i'll probably have to remove the pan to check that out, thanks for the replies!

was about to say only true way to do it is to drop the pan and look at the crank and rods and pistons dont be surprised if its stock. ALot of people like to push the stock motor to hard. Buying a car from the auction you never know what issues it could have.

you can measure stroke through spark plug hole. if it comes up 100mm you know its built.
