Boost controller question

Hello,

Just got my evo today, was getting aquainted with her and identified that there is a boost controller under the hood that allows me to rotate + or - boost .... i have not touched it, and I know that a tune needs to be done (per the advice of other members ) since i do not know if/when it was tuned ....

My question : How do i know until it is tuned that it is not unsafe? Should I run it hard and ensure the boost never goes higher than X amount?

It has 36k miles evo 8 2005, I was planning on getting the 30k service (fluids changed) done first.... how can i make sure i dont do any damage?

First, you need a boost gauge. Secondly, do a test run in 4th gear to see what the peak boost reading is. Anything over 22 PSI on pumpgas would be unsafe. In which case, you would need to turn the boost level down accordingly via your boost controller. But, mostly get a tune!
