Any other method to check Oil & Bearing Clearance???

Hi,
is there any other reliable method to check the crankshaft Oil & Bearing clearance beside "Plastic Gauge Method"???
As our place here can't get plastic gauge.

Just wonder how this plastic gauge method works?

Use a digital bore gauge and see what the bore is (caps torqued to block no bearings) and then use a micrometer on the bearing journals... then subtract to get the difference to see if your clearances are within spec...

Or just use the bore gauge, a three-point style, to measure the diameter with the bearing shells in place. Then use an outside micrometer to measure the bearing journal.

PlastiGage is used to verify and check for taper and hour-glassing. Make sure the stuff (PlastiGage) is NEW and hasn't been ion the shelf for years. Once it dries and gets hard and brittle, it's worthless for verifying clearances. Good stuff will easily "dent" with your fingerprints when mashed between a thumb and index finger.
