Sometimes when I shift fast at high rpms, it seems that the clutch doesnt engage fast enough thus making me miss a gear. Actually its only when I shift from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th. I found this on http://www.lancershop.com/clutch.htm and figured it could help. Anyone know anything about this?

Clutch Extender Rod - Lancer EVO 8

When running clutches like the Exedy Single, Dual, and Triple Clutch Kits. Problems have been known to exist; due to clutch not fully disengaging. With this machined clutch extender rod, your clutch will properly work. Save your transmission, and save your synchros. Machined from strong 4140 chromium-molybdenum steel (not some weak mild steel from a local hardware store) and built 1/4" longer than stock, this modified clutch slave cylinder rod will give you a plenty of clutch adjustment range without maxing out.

A recommended upgrade when replacing or rebuilding the clutch slave cylinder on EVO with heavy clutch kits. Fits Lancer Evolution 8.

If you like I can show you how to drive. They have been selling these for dsms for a long time. All it does is let you adjust the height of clutch engagement a little. On some aftermarket clutches they can help but i haven't heard of anyone using one on the stock clutch. There should be some degree of adjustment as is.
Does it grind when thios happen or just not go into gear?

I'm assuming you have removed the restrictor valve, right? I just did that in my EVO and it's made a big difference...

Yeah, but too bad it also completely VOIDS your transmission waranty and makes it more likely for your tranny itself to break.

I still can't understand some people's logic...people are willing to jeopardize a $4000 part to save a $350 clutch???

Someone explain.

P.S. do NOT take off the clutch restrictor valve unless youre willing to fork out the extra cash for the parts that Mitsu won't cover.

How about you just don't shift so damn fast?

Simple math for ya...

Lotsa powah + Lotsa traction = Lotsa broken stuff

Drag racing an Evo will probably get you great timeslips, but with those little pieces of paper, be ready for the light wallet that comes with it. There has to be a weak point somewhere, guys.

I'll take a slipping clutch any day of the week over a busted transfer case, front diff, driveshaft, etc.

Just something to think about...

have you considered having your transmission worked on by John Shepherd? www.shepracing.com

He runs the times so I would think he knows what he's doing. He worked on the Ultimate Racing Evo tranny as well as some other members on this board. All have had nothing but good things to say about the positive effects.

When I first got my Evo I found that I couldn't slam it from 1st into 2nd at anything over 6500 rpm (still can't), but I could shift as hard as I want on all the other gears past 6500 easily.
So now I just shift at 6K carefully. Again, it is only 1st to 2nd that gives me problems.

I talked to Avatar of war about it and he said he had the same issue going on when he had the stock clutch in, after he got his Exedy twin disk, it didn't grind anymore. I asked David Buschur and he said
Quote:
We are using the twin disc, it fixed the shifting problems
and about the restrictor he said
Quote:
The restrictor probably will not have any effect on WOT shifts. The restrictor will just allow the clutch to engage faster/harder
