"ZDDP protects older engines by creating a film on cams and flat lifter contact points. This film, consisting of zinc and phosphorus compounds, provides a sacrificial wear surface that protects the base metal of the cam and lifter from wear.

Additionally, ZDDP alters the surface characteristics of bearings and journals to prevent metal to metal contact, and reduces the tendency of critical engine components to scuff or gall under heavy loads."

Found that on some automative website, I am looking around but I cant seem to confirm or deny if it is only when the film breaks.

But heres some food for thought, even if that is the case most engine damage is done during the start up when the film is not built up yet. So that leads me to believe that it is an important thing to have. Also if the above quote is correct then I would say are cars being boosted would quailify as heavy load.

Liek I said once before. I would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

heres some food for though my friends, i provide the data and you make your own clonclusions if you may, this is what ive been trying to tell you for years now about mobil but this time i will try and let the data speak for itself .

And remember before you come and say that these could have been thinkered with, look closely at the charts and realize that "ASTM" is splattered all over the test.

How about showing us some current graphs and apples to apples comparisons to Mobil-1's current High mileage 10W-30 oil or their 0W-40 which is an "only" option for people buying Mobil-1.....Amsoil doesn't sell 0W-40...... Most of the Mobil-1 0W-40 specs are better than Amsoils 10W-30 specs. BTW, I did look closely at these graphs and they are almost 8 years old!!!!!! Quit beating around the bush and gather the current info, put it into a line by line and compare. Then you'll have me looking.

miragevo, how long have you been running m1 0w-40? Is a 40 weight too thick for winter?

I've only been running it for a few weeks, but it has slightly better or equal specs to 5W-30 in reference to cold start. So it is safe to run in the winter and will give you more protection when warmed up.

The second number has nothering to do with winter, thats the weight when the engine it at operating temperature. Some say 40 is a bit think for a stock block unless you have high milage.

And Mirage Mobile 0w-40 doesn't have enough ZDDP according to FPs chart so if you do get your black and don't change your oil they wont warranty your turbo when it gets chewed up.

For starters, I know what the 40 means. And also, I'm not a huge fan of FP's chart and how they did their testing to get there as you already know. I also know that I can run a 0W-20 oil of your choice.....at 40+ psi of boost all day long without any wear on FP's highest spinning turbos.....

The first part of my post was for EvolutinIX not you since he asked if the 40 was to thick for the winter.

Well it's your money. If the turbo happens to go your out 2 grand.

Well, I've never blown a turbo in the last 25 years of using different turbos. Militec-1 will prevail. BTW, I own a 9 turbo that only needs an upgrade for a little over a grand....not that this matters.
