I just changed my oil to Mobil 1 "0W-40" This is the best oil I have ever put in my Evo...period!!!!!!!!!! It starts up without a hint of noise in 40 degree weather perfectly,
due to it's "0 weight when cold and lubricates and protects with a 40 weight when hot. The engine seems smoother and runs quieter and under full accelaration too. This oil has excellent Phos and Zinc quantities.

With all the talk of the new oil requirements on blacks and reds because of the steel/steel bearing setup, and mobile 1 wrecking journal bearing turbos I have bee putting a great deal of thought into oil selection but would like opinions. I will be running an hta green in pretty cold weather straight pump, no meth or e85, what brand/weight oil would you guys recommend and WHY. Please dont tell me to search or just say amsoil, thanks guys.
Correct, it has some decent consistency to it and is available at your local auo parts store. I bought mine at Pep Boys. You won't be disappionted.

The green uses a steel/brass setup.
I thought I was gonna make the switch to amsoil but now I'm on the fence. After a lot of reading I want to go with a 0w-30 obviously full synthetic. I am trying to find something over the counter but may have to order...

I don´t know about what bearing type the Old-School Green has, but I have run Mobil1 0W-40 through that same turbo for about 40K miles and I love the stuff. The turbo was still very ¨tight¨ when I pulled it off recently after lots of heavy, summer, mountain driving.
Don't worry about the Old-School Green, that sucker is so strong. I check the shaft play regularly, and it's as you describe, 60,000 and no signs of wear. Now if I cold just get 300 more hp out of it, lol.
