Blown turbo??

So coming home tonight, I decided to do a quick pull. The car spun pretty bad in first, (hit the limiter) then I hit 2nd and something popped and now I can't build any boost. I check all the obvious things like IC pipes (been there done that...a lot ). Drove around the block and it smokes a little and smells like oil.

It's to dark now to do anything, but is there anything other than the turbo I should be checking tomorrow?

Turbo's an FP red with about 22K miles on it and running about 32psi on E85. It still starts and drives no problem and sounds normal. But it won't hold idle, it'll stall out.

I was thinking either headgasket or turbo, but wouldn't it still boost if it had a bad headgasket?

If it doesn't hold an idle, I would say check all the piping after the MAF.

Also check your ISC.

If not do a boost leak test.

Good Luck

Get to the turbo and check for shaft play and then do a boost leak test.

+1 on checking your ISC. Mine went out, Starts fine boost fine but wouldn't hold idle. Its located under your TB

Usually if its a bad turbo you will hear it start to whistle. And wont be able to build a lot of boost.

if you blew your turbo, you should also see white smoke coming from your tailpipe.

try cleaning your ISC and before you install it back on, plug it in and turn the key to ON position without starting the engine the ISC should move. If it doesn't then its time for a replacement! Usually the turbo whistles when it is blown, I would get to it and check the blades for excessive play. It's also a good idea to inspect your IC pipes for oil!

Were you by any chance running mobil 1 oil?

Car have a cat? Check that after a boost leak test.

sounds like the turbo is fine

check all hoses, all of them including under the tb, check codes too

There was a line hanging off by the throttle body, got that put back on. It still struggles to idle, but with the cams, big injectors and E85 it never idles that great anyways.

Still can't create any boost though. Had to come into work before I got a chance to pull the intake to check the turbo.

I checked the oil and it's a little low, kind of expected since it smells like oil and there's a bit of white smoke.

The turbo wouldn't cause it to not idle....that sounds like it is a bad boost leak, not one vac hose, more like a pipe.

And you wouldn't be able to build boost much if any if a pipe was off, all your pressure goes out the leak before it hits your manifold where the pressure is measured at. Not to mention the air is measured at the MAF so if you have a leak after that and the MAF is seeing air but the engine isn't, it won't idle well if at all either.
