2wd

I remember reading somewhere about Evo 8/9's doing tarmac rallies being able to switch to 2WD to save fuel on the transport stages and then back to 4WD. I tried searching but didnt really find the answers. Does anyone know anything about this?

No the thing I read about was switchable, possibly using the ACD? I think it was TMR that set it up. I'm trying to find the article and will post it up as soon as I do.

there is no way you can switch the evo drivetrain to 2WD on the fly... the centre diff is 50/50 and you are always turning all the diffs... what ACD only does is limit the slip between the front and rear axle under computer control..

There was a DSM transmission that could do this - or so I read. It was a JDM part but one or a few got to America. So, maybe this is the origin of the rumor.

Well, if it is a special racing part then anything is possible. I have trouble believing a racing team would be worried about gas mileage though.

I owned one of these such dsm trans/xcases. It was literally a switch on both and presto - 2wd.
