blown turbo or engine ???

hi guys,

I'm trying figure out if my turbo or engine is blown just for curiousity, if its engine i'll tow it to specialist, if its turbo i'll replace myself.

here is what happened:

I was driving along then i saw the tephra rom engine light flashing indicating knock, and the engine power got pulled back like it was retarding, then i let go quickly of accelerate, but soon as i did that (probably not quick enough), there was a small pop followed by blue smoke out of my exhaust and bonette and a rattling noise, i pulled over and turned the engine off, next day i noticed metal (looks like blown bolts) and oil all over the floor. I'm too scared to turn car on incase i can still save it now.

what diagnosing should i do to identify if it's turbo or engine?

see if you can find where the oil is leaking from. If there is a hole in the block, then its bye bye stock motor. I think your connecting rods wanted out.

I doubt its the turbo. When you spin a bearing you will ruin your turbo if you run your car long enough and will hear a whistle sound. Unfortunately sounds like the motor. Inspect your motor and just glance at your turbo since its visible easily. You will see where the oil is coming from and can determine what it is.

DSM Gaveyard/Graveyard Motorsports built both my DSM and my EVO 8 motors and I really couldn.t be happier. Jon is awesome! In fact if you tell him that Dustin said he is awesome he might hook you up lol.

i just jumped under the car and noticed two holes in a black tray, not sure where the tray is connected to , but it's not the oil sump, it's right next to it.

the car is being strange too, like i can't read the ecu from my pc anymore and the power windows wind up half way and stop etc...

any clues?

just had a customer tell me that happened to their car.. ended up being a giant hole in the block.. seemed to be caused by the balance shaft belt shredding off

good luck!

Sounds like you need to take it in to a shop for a diagnosis. I'm not sure what black tray you're describing so sorry I can't help. Since you notice a buch of oil and bolts on the floor under the garage I'm going to assume it's not the turbo that blew.

Good luck and keep us posted!
