I guess its the season for "omg what is this sound?" threads. I have an Evo IX MR, stock block with Kelford 272 cams and BBK Full. The car recently had all lifters replaced with fresh OEMs and the Kelfords have <5000 miles on them. It's been driving great for a while now, but last Saturday I started hearing a tapping coming from the head. I took a video of it, but have not been driving the car during the week. I started the car up yesterday and the sound seems even worse. I took another video of the tapping sound.

I have an appointment up at my shop on Saturday, but I'm not sure if its even safe to drive at this point. The idle is fine, vacuum is fine, and power is fine. Any theories?

 

i'm trying to hear it from my phone, could be lifters or the injectors tapping. I know the injectors make a tapping noise but i cant normally hear them with my loud *** exhaust

The sound doesn't seem to change with rpm although obviously no load on the motor. If its the lifters they are making a sound I've never heard before. I replaced my previous ones because they were worn and ticking like mad. This is more of a tapping sound like something is impacting on the intake side of the head.
