Difference in the fp red

what are some differences between the 3 types of Fp reds, in regards to spool, power, and etc.
The three different ones im seeing are the Rebuilt stock turbo to an fp red, 64mm red, and 80mm

they are all the same the only difference is the fp red with the 84mm surge cover helps prevent it from surging. the original fp red 64mm housing surges so they made that cover to help reduce it. If you send in a turbo to get transferred into a red you either add the surge cover or you dont effectively making it into one of the two types i just listed

NO they use new cores for the new turbos used cores are sent in by the user and converted. There is no difference if you send in your turbo EXCEPT WAIT TIMES and deciding surge cover or not. I hope you get the surge cover option would be crazy not to and have your hotside ported

The only other thing I've seen is that the smaller cover use to put out a little more hp, but not sure if that's still the case. I also remember that folks mentioned a slight loss in torque when switching from the smaller 64mm stock sized cover to the larger cover. I would have gone for the larger cover and oil line kit if they were around when I bought the turbo had it been available back then, but oh well, I still love my FP Red.

Yes they do. It sounds kind of cool. I had an 84mm red on my evo.

In addition to a shorter wait time, a new turbo will get you a fresh turbine housing. When used hard they can crack after a couple years, so it's good to start with a new one.

2nd that, just get a new one with the 84mm cover and be done. The 64mm and 84mm numbers do not refer to the size of the compressor or turbine wheel inside, its simply the diameter of the inlet where your intake attaches to. I feel like thats something that confuses a lot of people is seeing those numbers and assuming it has to do with the size of the wheel(s) inside.

I switched to the new cover and I am using the 1st ss oil feed line with no restrictor. I did not notice a drop in hp or torque when switching. I used to get surge at high boost and now I do not. The sound is awesome as well.
