Oil Leak After Cam Install
Oil Leak After Cam Install
Okay so I just installed gsc s2 cams in my car a few days ago. The car is not daily driven so I did not notice it till now but when the car is running I am getting a pretty decent leak. I have been trying to pin point where it is coming from and it is coming from either the oil pan seal or the bottom of the timing belt cover. Like I mentioned, it is a pretty significant oil leak and I am not sure exactly where it is coming from. The reason I feel like it could be the oil pan seal is the cam may have caused more pressure and made a pin hole or something.
If anyone has any other idea's please let me know what they are.. I was supposed to be going up to cbrd tomorrow to get a tune for these cams but im not driving it anywhere with a leak like this.

Take the top cam cover off and check the seals--cam seal, you did put them on rt? and the VC gasket around the cam towers--- if you didnt touch it, it isnt leaking from there--IE pan gasket. You'll find it, be systematic and logical and dont jump to conclusions
The reason im guessing it isnt the cam seals is because if those were leaking then there would be oil dropping in behind the timing cover. I took of the cam gear cover and looking down in there and there is no oil at all on the timing belt or gears.. It would have worked its way up if it was leaking down in there from the seals. The Vc is not leaking either because i checked all around the head and there is not one drop of oil around it.
I just took off the crank shaft pulley and saw that there is oil laying at the bottom of the timing cover.. I looked at the seal where the cam shaft is placed and there is no oil coming from there. The only place i can think that there is oil coming out of is the crank shaft seal..
I checked it between the cam gears last night and there was so sign off oil leaking there. I was doing a lot of reading last night and saw a very possible suspect of this leak would be the tensioner bolts. There is oil that flows behind the tension and if the bolts are not tightened down enought or it is not seated right it will create a significant leak. I did valve springs too btw so I completely removed the timing belt and removed the tensioner.
