Yes, Another help me pick a clutch thread

Yup, its that time again where some newb makes a thread to help them pick a clutch. Unlike most im not trying to find one that can handle over 9000hp or what duel/tripple/quad clutch disk to run. Im looking for a good clutch that can handle 350hp at most. My car is 100% stock and the only mods in the near future i see myself doing is cams, exhaust and a air intake. I would like my budget to be $500 but i will not go more then $750. Iv been looking into these clutches for awhile and cant pick which one for the life of me.

Also the reason why im making this thread is because iv read that not all clutches work with the 6speed. So i dont want to order something, and waste someones time to find out it dosent fit.

http://www.maperformance.com/act-hd-clutch-kit-evo.html ((God i just think this clutch is way to much, but if people suggest it alot then i shall get it) ACT Heavy Duty Clutch Kit with a performance disk)
http://www.maperformance.com/competi...n-viii-ix.html (Competition Clutch Stage 2 (I will take stage 3 and 4 since they are closely the same price))

So yea their you have it

Of the 4 that you have mentioned I would go with the Exedy, I pick that one cause I have used it on my car. It feels just like stock and is in a reasonable price range, especially if you wont be doing many mods.

I have owned.

Competition clutch stage 4, stage 3 and currently the ACT XTSS street disk.

I recommend going with the ACT XTSS with the full face street disk. It grabs smooth for daily driving and you have a lot of room to grow with power. The pedal feel at first will feel a bit on the stiff side but you will get used to it very quickly because its stiff on the initial push but gets easier as it travels down. So keeping it held down doesnt require a lot of effort.

For a budget the CCI stage 3 will work as well. It had a smooth engagement and stock like pedal feel. With the stock turbo tuned at 24 psi it held the power and the one time that I launched it, it was very nice. Once I upgraded to HTA Green with E85 tune, it did hold the power during acceleration. But when I launched it, it did hold at all and slipped throughout 1st gear. When I replaced the clutch, it was like brand new in the amount of material it had. It just couldnt handle the launch at 5750 rpms with the power of the HTA green.

The stage 4 ceremic sprung puck disk had smooth engagement at first but after breaking in it chattered during take off. Also after launching the car a few times the chattering got worse and when I took it off after 12k miles, there were ceramic material that flaked off from the clutch. At least that was with my experience.

ACT XTSS rated at 497 ft-lbs of torque
CCI Stage 3 rated at 350 whp (wtq rating unknown)

I own a 5 speed. So if any 6 speed owners out there want to chime in on how these would fit the their trans...?

you've got stock car, ACT HDSS with ACT streetlite flywheel. I had the same choice to make a while back, and I went with the Exedy stage 1 organic disc....big big big mistake. terrible clutch. I swapped it out for the ACT and love it. I've been on the ACT for 50k miles so far, and it's still holding strong. I got 70k out of the stocker, but only 50k out of that damn Exedy, and it locked me out of every gear, every day, every time I got on the gas and tried to shift.

I've got the 6 speed by the way...

ACT HDSS...do it

Im leaning more towards the ACT because i ran a 2100 in my eclipse and loved it. I also know that they will work on a 6 speed. Im really not into drag racing so i dont see myself launching it alot. If i do race it it will prob be open road racing and autox.

Oh man I made a mistake.

I meant for my review to be on the ACT XTSS not the HDSS .

So make sure you get the ACT XTSS !

Here is a review regarding HDSS vs XTSS

what's wrong with the HDSS? the XTSS seems like overkill for his application. I'm running the HDSS and love it

Well I only have experience with the XTSS so that is all I can recommend from my experience.

But from this review : https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/se...ss-review.html HighPSI had both and feels that the XTSS is more superior. The HDSS will work as well, but if the XTSS is better, why not opt for that?

Been driving with the XTSS since November 19 and its been beautiful the whole time. Shifts great during normal driving and WOT.
