thoughts on cutting radiator?

in a quest to save $500 and buying a half width radiator,

what are some of your thoughts on cutting an aluminum radiator in half and welding the tanks back up?

i was thinking there might be an issue with the shavings left behind even after flushing.

Most people go with the mishimoto civic radiator since its twin core and has the same if not a little bit better cooling efficiency than the stock single core radiator and also no shavings to worry about even though the only thing you would have to really worry about with having those is clogging your ghetto rigged radiator which isnt goin to cost you any thing besides your time and welding wire and messing with the water pump life. If you cut it with it facin the ground gravity should help reduce some shavings and you could then run a garden hose through it before welding it. Good luck man.

Common practice. Its all how its cut and how well its cleaned. I think most of what you'd get in left over aluminum would be pretty minimal. We havent had any issues cutting them in half and welding them up.

i do it all the time for local guys, works well and lets you customize the radiator to suit an evo alot better than most "civic" radiators.
