Hey everyone...I'm fairly new to evos. I have an IX mr which i purchased a couple of months ago. Just recently I started noticing a high pitched sound when i deccelerate both in and out of gear. It only happens at very very low speeds. So i will decellerate down to about 10 or 15 mph and it sounds like a high pitched whistle until the engine gets down to idle. Also, the sound is very quiet...it is not a loud whine or anything. Just a very quiet, high pitch whistle. Any input on this would be much appreciated. Just a little bit worried hear as I am new to my evo and don't want to see anything go wrong just yet .

Also, I have a few basic bolt ons....hks bov..upper and lower IC piping...TBE...intake...radiator...and CBRD protune.

It only happens in 1st or 2nd gear, correct? Those two gears are VERY loud on evo's, I believe they might be straight cut instead of helical? Mine, as well all 3 other evos I've ridden in, do this.

If you get a whine at high speeds (highway) though, check out your transfer case. Good luck

 

Is it dependent on engine speed, or vehicle speed?

 

Could be your brakes dragging. Depending on the pad, they can tend to make noise at low speed.
