Rebuilt tranny popping out of gears.

I just had my tranny rebuilt and the shop that did the install asked me to test drive it. I noticed it would pop out of 2nd when I let off the throttle. Also, the stick seems to move like an inch or more to the sides when its. In gear.
Does this sound like a tranny issue or do uthink maybe the shop didn't do the linkage quite right? No grinding at all.
Thx

popping out of gears can be syncros also .. which id hope it wasn't that after being just built.

i dont think the linkage would cause it to go out of gear.. its pretty hard to get the linkage confused
under the hood.. they pretty much are self explanatory since they are turned different ways and its
obvious where they connect to.

take it to a reputable evo shop to get looked at just to see if you're concerned.

Sounds like a syncro to me-- classic under load of just off load to pop out of gear. If they just did the syncros then its one of the associated sliders. Should have all been inspected and replaced---wierd stuff happens.

Ok good stuff. edit:: I am going to look into the linkage and make sure the master cylinder is adjusted properly.
With it moving side to side while in gear, it should be that the linkage is messaed up. I think it does it in first and second.

The sleaves and synchros were replaced per the builder so I bet its the shift linkage. I will bring it back to the shop and see what they say..

Ahh most of that should have been replaced. Anywho, I think I solved the issue of the linkage mystery. Turns out, every gear im in, the stick will move back side to side.. Took my buddy's pair of eyes to spot the issue. Where the linkage hooks up to the tranny there is a trianular metal piece which has a fat round pin that sticks out of the top. You shouldnt see the pin cuz there should be a black rubber thingy over it. That piece sticks into the groove of one of the shifter cable thingies. (excuse my technical verbage or lack thereof..) Anywho that missing black piece is why my shifter moves side to side. Going to see if hte shop still has it. if not, its probably a 5$ part from mitsu. I will see if that solves the 2nd popping into neutral issue or not..

So 5 thousand dollars later, after getting my tranny rebuilt and my transfercase replaced, I drove about 200 miles and my transfercase is blown.

The rebuilder says it was a fluid issue. The install shop said they did the fluids correctly.
The problem is I kind of believe both. Both are very reputable. I just dont know what to thinkg. Maybe the transfercase was a dud. Rebuilder admits everyones human and people are going to make mistakes.

I agree. Someone made a mistake and my transfercase is now shot after 200 miles and 5 grand.

whoever built it needs to fix it free of labor. whats easier? rebuilding a transmission? or filling it up with fluid? theres your answer.

I am really hoping they will work with me. Il try and and send it out to them this weekend. More labor to pull it again and then cost to shop it (i think the shop is going to cut me a deal on the labor woohoo! Lol)
