A Warning about ACT clutches to eveyone

DONT GET THE ACT HDSS Clutch KIT Ive had one on my car for 30k-40k and now my car lives its life on jackstands! After dropping over a grand on the HDSS and the ACT street lite fly wheel and then shelling out anouther 675 to have it installed, the throw out bearing went out. So now I have to eather pay to have my ACT rebuilt all over again when it should have been good in the first place. SO instead Im just going to get an Exedy clutch and flywheel now and throw my HDSS in the garbage. Having to pay for a clutch twice is the worst so make sure to save your self alot of time and money by not getting a clutch from ACT or youll have to pay the price like I did.

Throw bearings go bad......o.e.m, act, exedy, ptt, q.m. ect. they all can go bad. And you dont need a clutch rebuilt when a tob goes bad. You simply remove the old bearing a replace with a new one. Unless some how the bearing destroyed the pressure plate.

How was it driven?

Mine is fine, but then again, I changed my TO bearing when I did my clutch.

yea a 40k clutch in a evo sounds pretty damn good to me.lol its not like ur drivin a front wheel drive car or something awd cars are tough on clutches obvoiusly cuz ur tuning a whole 4 wheel drive train. TOB"s go bad man thats just life there not bullit proof. Ill be the first to say ACT's arent the best clutch's for a drive train but there pretty damn solid clutches and hold good power. But it blows u had issues but thats the way it is lol

You're going to throw your clutch away because your TOB went out?

Like the other guy said, you don't need to rebuild a clutch just becuase the TOB failed. You don't have to pay for the clutch twice.

TOB has nothing to do with the clutch, did the clip just pop or did the TOB itself self destruct? Damn 30-40k out of any EVO clutch is pretty good, and $675 to do a clutch in an EVO? It's a one man 4 hour job at best on jackstands. Spend $50 and get the STM clutch fork stop if the clip just popped.

Im not going to pay a mechanic 650 bucks to change a 70 dollar part that should have been right in the first place. If im paying shop rate for a clutch install then im going to have a new clutch installed not just a TO bearing. The TO bearings in the ACT clutches were defective and I got a defective one. The stock clutch lasted 60k no problem at all, I only changed it because i was having the 60k refresh done not because the stock clutch was slipping. If you guys are happy with only getting 30k out of a clutch on youre DD then youre crazy. I dont track and dont even really ever have to come to a complete stop ever unless im parked. I live in the Middle of the woods there is no rush hour and no traffic lights.

Im not going to change my own clutch on the ground in my dirt driveway. The last 3 roads to even get to where I live are all gravel. And yeah shop rate is a ton of money when you have the only evo around and you have to tell the mechanics about things like bleeding the ACD pump and all that.

I have no idea what the Bearing looks like right now. That car started making diffent noises when the clutch was open vs closed at idle in N and also changed the rpms. Drove it like that for like 7k till the car would jerk on and off throttle really bad and when ever you were off throttle rolling down the road the TO bearing would be making so much noise rattling and grinding so I i just stoped driving all together. Now i have to take the tribe shuttle to go get food and to get to work.

I never track Luanch drag autox any of that. I just drive my evo to get where i need to go and look good while doing it. I cruse the Rez roads that follow the rivers and stuff. I almost never go WOT because the roads are so curvy. I would describe how i drive as a safe nice commuter 98% of the time with 2% of my time spend driving down the winding roads that follow the wolf river.

Ummm.....why the fug are you taking your car to a shop with mechanics that have to be told how to work on your car? That's your first mistake. Also, why would you ACD pump have to be bled when swapping a clutch? Drive down to AMS and get your **** fixed worked on by a proper shop. Not some back woods dumb BS shop in the middle of no where.
