only 14 psi wtf?

So today I went with some friends to get a rb25 in a s13 dynoed and it put down around 250. On the way back playing around I noticed my evo 8 would only hit 14 psi. It has no ***** now either no power no pull nothing. The only thing I've done to it recently is change autometer gauges and it seems to be reading fine im still getting the same in vacuum as I did before on another gauge. I checked for a boost leak and got nothing. I've searched google and evom all day looking for an answer and found the usual boost leak test but nothing else. I slid all my couplers up and retightend them down and still nothing. Im still lost. Usually if u have a boost leak u can tell cause the turbo screams from spinning faster but mines not and like I said I've retightend everthing. What else could this nightmare be
edit: I also forgot to add my car is not hitting the whopping 14 psi until around 5k rpm so its spooling super slow now. Hopefully its not my turbo. I will be pulling the intake when the rain stops any help is appreciated

What turbo are you running? It sounds like you are running wastegate pressure. I would double check how your vaccum lines are run.

when putting in the Autometer gauge did you remove your boost pill?

The turbo is a stock 8 with 10.5 housing. And im not sure about the boost pill. I know the only change I have made is going from an autometer cf series gauge to an autometer cobalt gauge. On the cf gauge I would hit 20 psi and taper to 18 or so by around 5500 now im not hitting 14psi until around 5k. Im almost 100 percent sure I don't have a boost leak from couplers there on there tight and even used the hairspray trick still nothing. Im running an hks evc but I never mess with the settings and its always turned off so it should be running the stock wastegate pressure.

Unless you are running an upgraded wastegate 18-20psi is over what the stock wastegate pressure would be for that turbo. 14psi sounds like you are running wastegate with some boost creep. The stock wastegate pressure is 12psi I believe. I would turn on your EBC and slowly increase the boost setting.

I've always thought and read on forums that the stock evo 8 wastegate pressure is around 18 to 19 and that's what my evo would hit around before today. And I haven't changed anything except the gauge and it feels slow. Somethings def not right with my turbo not hitting full boost 14 psi until 5k+ rpm im going tomorow to have all the drivetrain fluids changed so when its on the lift I will re check all my piping, vacuum lines, and couplers.

Sorry wasn't thinking wastegate is around 14 and boost should be around 18 or 19 so does that mean its prob a problem with the vacuum lines to the wastegate or the wastegate itself since boost pressure is now what the wastegate pressure is suppose to be?

Mine is acting up now too, I haven't done jack to the car. On initial spool up it goes to about 20psi then falls down to 14-15psi, I need to get in it to see wth is going on

the spring in the wastegate is 10.5psi and with the factory boost pill it raises it to 19-20 psi.

If you're hitting 14psi by 5000RPM, it's probably wastegate-only pressure and you're creeping past 10.5psi.

Most likely a boost pill issue. There should be a diagram on the hood with how the vac lines run between turbo, WGA, and intake.

That sounds like a boost leak.

FP uses upgraded actuators. They are offered in 18/25psi actuators, one offered appears stock. The stock Evo 8/9 runs an 11psi actuator.

From the FP website....http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...Lancer-TurboHW

If you replaced any of the vaccum lines then recompile's answer sounds very likely.

I would start playing with the EBC.

K this is getting off topic. Before today the car would hit 19 psi now it doesn't. Its not creeping nor was it ever creeping it use to hit around 19+/- and taper to 17 or so now its hitting 14 at 5k rpm and tapering to 12 or so with a significant loss in power. The only changes were the gauge I didn mess with vacuum lines other than un hooking the first boost gauge and hooking in the second one.

Have you attempted to reinstall the old gauge? I would turn on your EBC and begin to adust it to see if you can hit higher then wastegate. When I installed my 35r. I though I was having wastegate issues because I was only creeping up to 19psi when I put my limiter on 30psi. It turned out that I had forgotten to adjust the gain up high enough. for it to take over. Once I noticed and reajusted I hit 30psi with no problems. Good luck with things.

sounds like a boost control issue. what are your mods? what boost controller are you using? are you tuned?

Unfortunately I dropped the old gauge which pretty much f'd it up. Mods are hks 272s hks suction pipe, hks ssqv, arp head studs cometic head gasket, tbe, safcII ecu flash by turbo trix, and some other mods that are irrelevant to the issue. Running a hks evc electronic valve controller same as ebc they just named it the evc for some reason lol.
