Spark Plug gap?

So my car is fuel cutting a little bit right now, I know I need to get a tune, and I will, but I'm wondering if I change the gap on my spark plugs if the fuel cuts would maybe go away or wouldn't be as bad? (Right now under full throttle the car feels like its coughing once the turbo kicks in.) If changing the gap in the plugs would helop where should I set the gap to? My car is all stock right now except for IC piping and an intercooler.

Fuel cut feels like you're literally hitting a wall and everything is killed and all the power dies. I think what you're experiencing is spark blowout. Set your gap to .022", use a feeler gauge. Let us know how it works out.

Well if you don't think its fuel cuts I'll describe the original problem and hopefully figure out if its the plugs or the fuel. When I accelerate around 4000 rpms it feel like the car hiccups, all power is lost for a split second then the power will come back and again the same problem will happen several hundred rpms later all the way up to when I shift. So pretty much it feels like the car hiccups and all power is lost for a split second. Is that the plugs or the fuel. I'll take the plugs down to .022 anyway and try that.

Did you try changing your plugs yet?

Sounds like it is just missing to me and not hitting fuel cut.

Pick up some NGK BPR7ES plugs from NAPA or wherever you can get them and gap them to .24/.25 and report back. I'd guess it'd probably solve your problem.

Can I gap the stock plugs? The manual says not to.

Yeah, he must have meant to say .022" gap, and not .22", which would be almost a quarter of an inch!

.022 is correct measurement

Thanks guys! The .022 was an answer to my nightmare. The local auto parts tech told me. 044. I had all kind of idling problems and engine cutting out on me. I went through system of cleaning mass airflow sensor, Throttlebody, and changing coil packs. Now my Lancer runs as new. I did purchase the NGK Iridium s.

8 year old thread, I’d imagine none of these people are active anymore lol.
