How important is to use a Oil Inlet Filter for GT30R Turbo?

How important is to use a Oil Inlet Filter for GT30R Turbo?

Hi,
i'll putting in my new GT3076R turbo and i am very doubtful on whether to put or not to put a oil inlet filter for my ball bearing turbo?

Some say, not necessary as it will choke and create more problem for the oil supply and some say it is important to minimize contamination from the engine to the turbo...

Pls advise

I'd say a reactor pill is more important and wouldnt worry about running a filter

only benefit is that if you have an engine failure and debri somehow gets past the oil filter it will save the turbo, other than that it doesn't really do anything.

But is a turbo oil inlet restrictor have same function as a oil inlet filter?

if you are looking at the FP oil filters I think they have the appropriate size restrictor depending whether the turbo is ball bearing or plain bearing. The garrett gt turbo's have a much bigger orifice than ideal so using a restrictor isn't a bad idea.

forget to change that filter and say good bye to your $1700 turbo i just talked to a guy the other day about this he couldent make alot of boost with his turbo 30+ lbs and he couldent figure out y come to find out his filter was clogged hes sent it away for inspection since them like everything they have there pros & cons.

So beside the oil inlet filter, can i just put in the oil restrictor which shown in ATP website (http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...egory_Code=GRT)

Honestly, i still cant figure out what function is a oil inlet restrictor (which shown on the link)???

Is it better to put in a restrictor or an unrestricted oil inlet?

ball bearing turbos require only very small amounts of oil for proper lubrication. The restrictor protects the turbo from excessive oil pressure that could otherwise cause damage.

^This. Too high of a pressure to some of the ball bearing chras will cause the seals to leak...
