upgrade to walbro 255?

im currently debating on whether or not to upgrade my stock fuel pump. right now the fuel system is untouched. current mods are hks intake, hks 272s, arp head studs, full 3" tbe, vta o2 dump, evo 8 turbo with 10.5 hotside, hks evc, ic, licp and uicp, hks ssqv, forge wg actuator, etc etc. right now im at around 21psi spike tapering to 18 or so and am wanting to go to around 24 or 25 pike taper to around 20 or so. would it be a good idea to pick up a walbro 255 now or wait to get injectors? a buddy of mine is offering me some rc 750s bnib for a damn good price. if i installed the pump now would i run into problems such as fpr overrun? and if i did is it really an issue other than being a little rich at idle? any help would be great thanks.

A higher flowing fuel pump is never a bad idea. Im surprised you didnt get it before cams haha. Trust me its definitely worth it. Ive had a walbro for 2 years now and its never failed me. You will need that extra fuel once you turn the boost up. Its a fairly cheap mod to do so i say do it, you dont want to run lean. As far as i know it shouldnt change any characteristics of the car because injectors only use as much fuel as they need, though i may be wrong.

I think that an upgraded fuel pump should be your very next step. Is your car tuned? Did your tuner not recommend a fuel pump?

The initial effect might be that your rich-from-the-factory Evo may become slightly more rich at idle due to the increase fuel pressure, but your tuner can smooth that out immediately.

I just ordered my Walbro and a Hallman Pro MBC, with GSC cams and a tune soon to follow. You want to make sure that you never outpace your fuel source when you are upgrading your boost to the levels that you are talking about. Cheap insurance for your future.

definitely get a fuel pump. i would suggest going to the dw300. quiet and flows more compared to the walbro. skip the 750s and go for atleast 100cc. i know there are e85 stations in TN so atleast your fuel system is ready if you do decide to switch to e85.

There are e85 stations here but over an hour drive there and an hour back so unless they bring one closer im still not thinking the frive outweighs the benefits. And for right now im only wanting to bump the stock turbo up some and reach it's full potential safely. My buddy seling me his injectors for 150 bucks so a 350 dollar fuel system that good to around 400-450 isn bad right now. Im still working on another project once that's finished I will prob upgrade to a double pumper and bigger injectors once I decide on goals for this car.

Thanks for everyones replies, ordering the fuel pump later today.

im sorry to tell inform u man, those 750cc wont get you too 400-450 youl get high 300s, but then your gonna have too high of an idc. You can be on a high reading dyno, even on race gas you might crack 400 but on stock turbo even with your mods, wont happen man, not tryin to be a dick or burst your bubble, tryin to level with ya and be honest. My 880 injectors flow enough for about 400 on gas, so like someone said earlier go with 1000cc, your gonna get the power bug bite you one day, and last thing you wanna do is replace parts you already have. But its your car, do as you will.

The power bug bit me a long time ago. Im only wanting to do this now for a little more giddy up. I know 750s aren't great but they should be enough to reach the stock turbos limits right? Im not sure how the 750s wont reach 400 since buschur racing did a thread and got like 360 hp with no fuel modifications just bolt ons. Its hard balancing two projects at once. In one hand im doing a stroked honda build that I've been working on for years and on the other hand I have the evo that im dying to really start modding like my evo but need to finish the honda first and figured if I could get my friends injectors for 150 it wouldn be that bad a deal.

^true. I have just been overlooking it for a while since im still on stock boost well maybe 3 psi highe but now im planning on really pushing the turbo so figured it was time. My only concern was if it would overrun the stock fpr and if that does anything besides make it a little rich.

awdordie, thats why I said it depends on what dyno you go on, sometimes youll get lucky and you have some headroom, whereas some cars, there idc's go up real quick when tryin to up the fuel in higher rpms, so even 2 cars from some make and model will put down different numbers and have different issues. Depending on what your gonna use your honda for, im sure itll be fast, but comparing a fast honda and a fast evo, is like comparing a fast streetbike to a vespa...two different categories of fast. haha But considering your mods, I think youll be alright on 750cc injectors, just make sure when your getting tuned im sure your tuner will watch your idc(injector duty cycle- how much the injector stays open, too high and theyll never shut off haha), so finish your honda that way your evo can get some proper lovin haha.

Now Evilevo, on the other hand since your gonna be jockin a stroker kit, your airflow the engine will put out will require more fuel, so in your case like I said depending on your gas, (race, pump, e85) should determine what size injectors you should get. Personally i'd recommend nothin under 1000 cc injectors, my 880s will flow 400 ish hp on gas, might be maxed out on e85, but id be interested to see how it does before it runs out, if i could make 450 ish on e85, with those and a single wally, id be happy. But im not sure I see that happening. So moral of the story kids, buy your mods right the first time, so your not spending more money on the same part...

good luck to all if you need help pm me
