I'm running the Exedy Twin SD right now, have been for about 20K miles. Yes there is some chatter and it barked for the first few thousand miles but the pedal feel is very mild, more towards the lighter side. Engangement is smooth and grabs hard when launching. The SD is rated for 430 ft lbs which is why I got it (I don't plan on pushing more than 370-380tq).

Its nice that this clutch can be rebuilt although it still runs about $800 to fully rebuild it. The only thing keeping me from doing the ACT is longevity with launches and the high rpm lockout. I guess if you never shift over 7K then there would be less issue but I like having the piece of mind that I can drive, shift, and launch however I want.

Depending on the amount of torque you make and if it's for daily driving I would prefer the ACT HDSS. I've had it in my car for a while now and it seems to be alright. After a proper adjustment of the clutch pedal I don't get lockouts anymore and the operation is pretty smooth. The clutch will last if you don't slip it or heat it up too much (main reason for lockout issues).

You can always get a multi-plate clutch or even try out the 6 puck but if you want the features of the stock clutch (quiet and smooth operation) with the ability to handle your torque output then I don't see a reason not to use the ACT HDSS.

I'd recommend ACT HDSS/XTSS. I've felt both and they feel the same pedal pressure-wise (to me), but the XTSS has a sharper grab. Yes its apparently a risk seeing how some people have bad lock-out issues. I just got mine installed by someone that knows their stuff, and I adjust the clutch pedal whenever it needs it. On the track (circuit not drag) I get lockout sometimes going to 4th. But I set my engagement point like 3inches above the floor and after 4 or 5 laps. I know the lockout will go away if I readjust the engagement point higher.

Basically its got the stock clutch feel, pedal pressure, but with a sharper engagement. And holds a crap ton more power. And it gets smoother with age (I'm at 30k miles on it). I still chirp all 4 tires with every launch at the strip. It doesn't slip anymore than I allow it. I think I'm up to 30 drag launches with it.

I'm not sure why people are saying it chatters. It doesn't! The most I get is a clunk when pushing in the clutch pedal occasionally. It will do it once and not do it again for a few days.

Also I used the ACT tob. I've been told its a stronger but noisier (hence the clunk) unit than OEM. I think you should look into that before you decide.

Pedal pressure is a tad bit stiffer. Engages the same, very street able.

^ Sorry man but I disagree. On my HDSS and on my friend's XTSS pedal pressure is about the same as stock, maybe just a bit stiffer. Engagement is definitely more aggressive than stock. Especially when below 10k miles. The modulation is done by pedal pressure, not pedal travel. If that makes sense.

Btw if people are worried about driveability on ACT clutches, let me put it this way. I'm teaching my gf how to drive stick in my car. So far shes doing pretty well.

Love my HDSS. Deeman101 nailed it with his post. That's exactly what I found too. Smoother after some miles, never got harder to push, just stronger engagement from the same movement.

No lockout, no clunking noise (except when it's sat for a week, it will clunk once backing out), no problems shifting or any grinding. I'd buy another one.

i have a ACT HDSS (full face) with xtreme pressure plate and streetlite flywheel. during the first 500-600 miles on cold starts it had a horrible sound with vibration on the clutch pedal after the 600 miles it smooth out but now after several launches and 20K+ miles it has a chatter noise during decelaration with is annoying. its a pretty noisey setup (on my car anyway).

although it does hold the power well.

for my next clutch i was considering a sprung 6 puck with the the OEM flywheel but not sure yet. i would love a twin disc but the rebuild prices are a bit scary at times lol

My ACT HDSS has been amazing. Its held up to at least 50 autocross style launches which of course are less aggressive than drag launches but still pretty good. Id say in the 1.9sec 60' range.

As everyone says, pedal pressure is a little firmer than OEM, but not a lot.

I dont have any lockout, but I also dont drag race so not much high RPM 3rd or 4th shifting.

I'm running the ACT HDSS, pro-lite flywheel, oem TOB, redline cocktail and am very pleased with the setup. The pedal pressure is not much stiffer than stock, it feels very good. I noticed a little chatter while breaking the clutch in, but as I expected it went away after breaking the clutch in and putting a good few launches on it. I've not experienced any lockout what so ever that people seem to have problems with. I've made probably 20 drag strip passes on this setup. This includes some hard launches and sometimes shifting as high as 7500. This includes with NLTS set up and without it. I'm making around 350/350. No problems at all.

I've ran several ACT 2600 clutches back in the day in all my DSM's and loved them, so making the decision to go with this in my EVO was a no-brainer.

HOly crap, 4 pages and not 1 person recommended the carbonetic pro blade regular?!? https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ni-review.html This has no documented chatter and was said to be the best clutch for the evo by Cbrown and recommended heavily for this purpose. Def need to look into this op
