Evo 8 Project - Engine water leak
Evo 8 Project - Engine water leak
Recently I bought an EVO 8 that was hit in the front. I thought it would be a quick fix (core support, radiator, twist mounts back.. etc). It turns out that all of the things I assumed were wrong with the car were able to be fixed about as easily as I had thought... but then i found bigger problems.
The issue I'm having with the vehicle now, is that upon filling the car with water to test fire the engine, water started pouring out the side of the motor from behind the timing cover. I was able to see the frost plug on the water pump, so I could determine that wasn't the issue. I've decided to yank the engine out and tear it down. Worst case scenario i'm assuming is if the block is cracked. I have been reading a lot about the 2.4 swap, and also considered grabbing a JDM evo 4 motor as a replacement. If anyone has any ideas on where my leak might be coming from, or the best course of action to fix the engine if the block is cracked please don't hesitate to post!
I'm also looking for a power steering bracket, as mine was cracked and bent from the wreck. The whole mess could be for sale for the right money too.. if someone is interested in a project vehicle.

Here is a picture showing the damage (just after I took the hood off), and another image showing how it looked about an hour before i decided to pull the motor. Should be easy with no core support!!
