Just another dead clutch or more?
Just another dead clutch or more?
Hello everyone. Last week I drag raced my car twice on the stock clutch. My mods are FP Black, Kelford 272,s and BPU. The car took off like a bat out of hell both times, with the clutch slipping a little bit. The next night as I was driving I decided to do second and third gear pulls but noticed my clutch slipping bad enough to where it stayed at 7Kish rpm all the way to 4th gear as I was shifting. Clutch smell was noticeable.
Based on this I decided to drive it easy until my new clutch comes in. So the next night (which is 2 nights after my races) I start up the car to leave my friends house and as I am driving toward the freeway I can definitely smell clutch. I jump on the freeway and am able to drive about 5 miles, until I decide to pull off because of it slipping way to much. I was in 5th gear at 5Kish rpm only going 45 mph. I pull the car over at a gas station to check it out and there is smoke and the smell of clutch coming from the top of the tranny. I then tried starting my car and it wouldn't start, which I later discovered was due to a blown fuse. (the one connected to my battery, which is relocated in the trunk). Anyway, the next day I replace the fuse and try to drive the car home. The clutch is slipping horribly this time, almost at the same point it was at on the freeway. I get to a stop light after about 4 miles of street driving and attempt to accelerate. I could not get the car over 10 mph, even in 5th gear and decide to park it and let the clutch cool down.
Two days later I came back to attempt to move the car, but the car won't even move. I tried all gears and the car won't budge. Is this just a totally shot clutch or something worse?

Yes, that clutch is completely gone. I remember when I had something like this too. Launched the car, clutch started slipping and got worse each day. Then finally, it didn't go anymore. Hell, I put it in first gear, let go of the clutch, leave the e-brake up, and all the car did was idle 100RPM lower than the usual. Replaced it with an Exedy OEM replacement (would suggest not going with it since you'll be running more power) and it grabbed so well since it was brand new.
lol, ok...I actually ordered my exedy twin disc before my races last week, so they are supposed to be coming in this week. I just thought it was really weird that it would go completely shot to the point where the car doesn't even move, in just a few days.
Thanks for the info.
