My 80k miles transmission grinds in 2nd gear and 3rd at high rpm when fully warmed up. Shifting at low rpm feels notchy. However on cold start it shifts fine. I have tried adjusting the clutch rod and it somewhat feels a little bit better. I also swapped the fluid with Castrol SynTorq and it feels better on cold start. I only get problems when its fully heated up.

I need to know if its my syncro starting to go or can I solve this with a thicker transmission fluid?

 

You're already using the right fluid. It might be time to take advantage of the shep rebuild.

How much is the shep rebuild kit?

 

$1900 for the gears + $800 for the rebuild. If you need forks or anything else it may cost a little extra. No transmission is the same so I would set aside at least 3.5-$4k just in case you need a bell-housing or something.

 

I rebuilt mines and changed 2nd and 3rd gear synchro. Along with the slider and shift fork.
