Make sure you aren't running lean, only one pump on 1200cc injectors is pretty close to where you are on power with E85. I could definitely see it sputtering if it is running out of fuel in the higher gear where it usually holds a little more boost. You are saying you made more power on the same fuel setup though? Or did your MR run on race fuel or have a different fuel setup?

One pump and 1200s is out at around 485-490 on our DJ or fairly close. Since this is Doug's dyno (I presume) it should be 13% lower but a lot depends on if the weather correction and altitude correction was on.

Couldn't a Black be tuned to make more power on 91 octane gasoline than an HTA Green could make? If a Black makes about 30 to 40 WHP more than a Red when just swapping one for the other without a tune, then I would figure that a Black could easily make more power than a Green given the same fuel.

Everything else remaining equal, shouldn't a Black be able to run higher peak boost levels safely than a Green on any given fuel, due to its larger, colder blowing compressor and less restrictive turbine?

In theory yes, but it really depends on tuning and getting the absolute maximum out of a setup. A black at lower boost levels is not running very efficiently so, unless you can safely tap into the higher boost range (30+psi), your benefits would be limited.

You also have to take into account power under the curve, so if you run mid 20psi range on a green and a black, the black might peak higher, but overall power under the curve will probably be lacking.

I tried running lower boost levels on pump gas for a long time with my 3582 and I would see around 380-400whp on pump gas (non E85). I would run maybe mid teens for trap speeds (115-117). Of course I have mild cams (HKS 272), no head work and no intake manifold on a stock block. If you were to do some of those things I mentioned, you would see greater increases from the larger turbo as it would have to work harder at the same boost level (more in the blacks efficiency range).

+1.

Running a large turbo outside of its efficiency range will result in a narrow power band with smaller area under the curve, which is how a pump gas stock block 500+ whp car can be slower than a 400 whp car with a larger area under the curve.

I've learned so much about lag the last couple weeks its not even funny. I ordered the hta 71 from fp because I now know what lag feels like and its not for me. Will be tuned on e85 after finishing some more troubleshooting ideas with this black. Gonna gap the spark plugs smaller to start with and hopefully that takes care of the lose of power feeling or bubbling feeling before the turbo kicks in. Any advice on why that's happening would be great. Hopefully its misfire from the plugs

Problems solved. Added new plugs gapped smaller and the fp intake. Right now we have the boost turned all the way down and it pulls very hard. Soon we will up boost to 32 lbs and tune. Will let ya know mustang dyno numbers soon.
