sounds like with a couple of your issues, you need to shake down your front end for play, and also check all your joints in the front end ( ball joints, tie rod ends) check your control arm bushings for cracks and deteriortation. Easy way to do it if youve never done is a 2 man job,one guy grabs tire at 12 and 6 o clock position on tire and shakes it pretty consistent, other person looks under vehicle for any movement. Same thing again checking shaking tire at 3 and 9 o clock position, only thing is your inner or outer tie rod might have some movement, but look at where the grease fitting is and see if it looks like it pops when shaking it. As for your other issues, the clunking towards the middle to the rear, could be exhaust rubbing, or it could be one of your bushings by differential starting to go bad. Good luck check one thing first.

whats your power goal? and type of gas youll mostly use, thatll determine what type? personally im runnin a 64mm fp red and for the most part im happy with it, but eventualyl i wanna go e85 tune, so a red at 30+ psi should make some good numbers. But primarily pump gas, theres a couple of bbk turbos that will do good, the red like mine but only 80mm, an hta green would be good. Just depends on your end goal. Obviously if you want 500 or more an fp black or a full on turbo kit would be better suited.

Nice for someone to finally ask you what your "goals" are with the project- and not just say "buy this or buy that" or put a 35R on a stock block on E85 etc etc...

You have to have an educated and well thought out idea on what you want the car to do, how you will use it, and how long you expect it to last (especially on stock block) in order to come up with the right solution-

you mentioned something about stock turbo and 400+whp at 25psi... that is simply not happening on many dynos (such as ours) even on bolt ons cams etc....

at the end of the day there are various ways to go about even a single build- but the key is to pair the PROPER proven parts to do it.

Let me know if we can help you with your planning and or goals-

Cheers

CB

^^True that, if you dont have a plan your never gonna be happy with the end result, and youll prolly end up spending thousands more then you originally planned to make 20-100 hp less then you thought you would. Always better to have a plan then wing it, cuz wingin it is where $hit goes wrong haha

Goals Setup Ect

Hey guys here is what I came up with so far the car is a 2006 evo ix Ssl ed 5spd 50k miles.

This is the list of what's done to it right now
1.X02 Front Mount
2.Ams Intercooler Piping
3.Hallman in car boost controller
4.Jm fab cover
5.Gsc S1 Cams
6.Exedy Twin Disk
7.Defi Boost, Oil Pressure & EGT Gauges
8.Defi Control Unit
9.Carbon Fiber Braille 11.5lb Battery
10.Weapon R Dragon Intake
11. Megan Racing TBE
12. Bc Racing Adjustable Coil Overs
13.New Falken Tires
14.Short Throw Shifter
15.Vms Oil Catch Can
16.Stainless Drilled & Slotted Rotors
17. Carbon Fiber Wing, HIDs & Smoked Taillights

This is what I'm replacing from that list ditching
1.Gsc S1 Cams
2.Weapon R Intake
3.Megan Racing TBE
4.X02 Front Mount & Piping
5.Falken Tires

This list is what I have already just needs put on
1.ETS 3.5 Front Mount & Piping
2.Ams TBE
3.Invidia o2 housing
4.Dunlop Dirreza Radials
5.Exedy Twin Disk ( A spare now
6.Hks cam gear
7.Arp HeadStuds
8.Cosworth Timing Belt
9.Ams Upper & Lower SS Clutch Line
10.Bushur Racing Shifter Base & Under the Hood Bushings
12.Aem Volts & Wideband Gauges

This list is what I'm buying before I even start working on it
1.Map Rev 3 Intake Manifold
2.Map Tubular Exhaust Manifold
3.Bushur Racing Double Pumper
4. Gsc Beehive Springs & Titanium Retainers
5.Kelford 272/272 Cams
6.Mil.Spec 65mm TB
7.Fuel Injector Clinic Injectors (Recommendations? Thinking 1650/1680cc)
8.FP Black Turbo
9.Intake (Recommendations?)
10.BOV/Wastegate (Recommendations?)
As well as some other irrelevant things trans temp gauge, alarm, camera, engine dress up, ect ect.

On a side note what are your recommendations for spark plugs/ and fluids alike.

I guess my end result would be a street/drag car I would like to find a good balance leaning more toward the drag side but still able to be driven on the road. My power goals are 500+on pump and 60/+ on E85 given these are permissible. Any other suggestions or details I may have missed just let me know thanks for the advice guys.

Projekt,

My best recomendation for you is this. You are in PA. If it happens to be SouthEastern PA you absolutely should make an appointment and take your car to CBRD. CBRD has as good a reputation as any shop on this site both for service and quality of parts. With that said, your appointment should be to have your new-used car completely looked over. You have gremlins in your car, noises, whines, pops, something you can feel in the brakes and steering. You really shouldn't put much effort into planning your build (unless you have no budget) until you have that sorted out. It might just need a little TLC, or it might need some serious overhaul. If you had to spend $4,000 on maintenance and repairs i can only assume that would affect your build budget. If you skip those repairs, more HP from mods is just going to lead to failure faster.

And look at it this way. While your car is getting some attention from CBRD you'll have the chance to talk with experts face to face about your goals and build plan. Nothing compares to talking face to face with people who know their stuff. And as much help as you can get from the peanut gallery here, there is often a lot of BS to sift through to get to the good info. You being new to the Evo might not pick up on what is BS and what isn't.

Do yourself a favor and talk to CBRD if you are in the right part of PA, or another reputable Evo-specific shop closer to you. In the end it will be well worth it.

-Tim

edit: and welcome to the Evo club. It's a great car.

The bold are what I would do

seems like ur setup is pretty solid man, thats a lot of money to fork out in going, one thing id do is out of a couple things you could get by without, id set that money aside for stuff your prolly gonna break after a bunch of 500/600 hp pulls, preferably, a shortblock, a clutch, thats my 0.02, because ive seen this in a few instances, go fork out 10,000 then somethin goes wrong then your up **** creek without a paddle...you know?

I wanted to add a question for you also. Why do you want such big power? You have only had the car for a week. You are going to take the enjoyment out of owning the car by modifying it immediately to that level.

Wow, thanks for the fast responses guys appreciate it. I might swap a few things out some of the stuff I already have. To answer your ? Go big or go home I guess haha ill be driving the car as it sits now for the duration of the summer. Then putting it in the garage for the winter and starting to do some simple work as for the stuff I'm not sure about I will probably take it to CBRD next spring to get it finished. So ill have about 3 more months driving it. how it is to get the feel of it. About the intake manifold and cam gear is it okay to run what I have listed or is that not worth it? As for oil would Lucas or royal purple suffice? And what grade do you recommend ie 5w 30 ect? Thanks again for the input guys any other suggestions let me know.
