Reflashed ECU and black grit?
For those of you with a reflashed ECU ,is your exhaust tip BLACK?
The inside of my exhaust is Black. I can wipe it clean, and then drive it for a day and it is just caked with black grit inside and out.
I had a Dynoflash about 2 weeks ago, and added a Exhale axel back a few days latter. I had it reflashed for the exhale and the ralli-art drop in filter.
What is this Black grime, and are those of you with a reflash experiencing the same?
Im kinda of concerned that my car is running too rich, and I think I can smell my cat now?
Is there a way i can have somthing hooked upto my exhaust to tell me if Im running rich or not?
Thanks.

Cool, got an appointment Wed.
They said they can hook a sensor up to the exhuast and drive it and be able to get a reading.
What type of air to fuel ratio am I looking for.... A safe range?
Al is not at his phone today?
Thanks again.

Just got back from air/fuel test with wide band O2meter,, it was a Autronic. It didnt log into a computer, we just wrote down the numbers at different rpm's.
3000 .......11.6
3500 .......11.5
4000 .......11.6
4500 .......10.49
5000 .......10.4
5500 .......10.6
6000 .......10.7
6500 .......10.3
7000 .......10.1
7500 .......10.2
6000-7500 sweep .........9.8
My gas mileage went from 19 to 17 after this dynoflash.
I was told 11-1 is a good area to be in. Now without having it tuned on a dyno i cant really get a good tune. But the black grime on my exhaust tip is just out of controll.
I think I will give Al a call.

I shoot for 11.1 - 10.9 on the custom tunes and richen it out a bit more on the mail flash tunes to provide a sufficient margin of error
Our a/f ratios are still much leaner than stock which is so rich you can not even measure it
How did you obtain these values - did they get logged or are they read off a gauge while driving - also where was the o2 sesnor placed ?
When we were talking yesterday - I told you to call me with the results and i could discuss making some corrections for you
At this point - I'd like to offer you a full refund and a flash back to stock - the a/f's you have are what I want on the mail tuned cars - I do NOT believe in running them very lean - its too dangerous if your not satisfied just send it back and I will flash you back to stock - - OR make arrangements to attend one of our custom tuning sessions where we run the cars much leaner
You can call me at 203-515-4110 or email me or pm

Al - I'm glad this was brought up. My car is still running fine, but I'd really like to lean it out a little more to 11.5:1 A/Fs. I've been reading up on it. It seems that is about the uppermost safe limit without pulling timing. What do you think? I am done with mods on my blue Evo since I am going to be building an RS shortly. If it's worth the trouble, I'll drive up to Pruven and have you guys put in the fuel pump and re-DynoFlash my little monster. Thanks!

Al,
I just wanted to follow up with my post. Im sure it will be useful to others.....maybe not???? lolol
Im totally happy with Your DYNOFLASH! Im just concerned with all the black soot on my exhaust. So I took it in and had a DSM tuner shop here hooked a/f wide band upto my car. They went in where you said would be the best and ran the cord through/door. He said it was the newer Autronic from Australia?
Anyways he said it was one of the better ones on the market.
We drove the car and wrote down the numbers as we went. Applying the brake to hold rpm's. I know this isnt the best way to get real ratio's, but this the only way since he only has a 2 wheel dyno.
I would like to see if you could do more like 11-1 throughout from a mail in reflash, other wise I will be happy with it , unless it fouls up my plugs and cat down the road.
I can really tell a difference from the stock ecu to yours DYNOFLASH and think it was $200 well spent.
But when we did a sweep of the rpm's from like 6000-7500rpm's the ratio was like 9.6??? He even said this was way too rich.
I did fill my tank up last week and got 17mpg , as oppossed to the 18-19+ .

i think you will prefer 11.0 /1 a/f after you see how little hp you can gain going to 11.5 - BUT - with a custom tune I will be happy to set it where ever you like
However on a throuh the mail flash its too dangerous to shoot for a very lean mark as there is significant car to car variances

As far as a refund, I not only want you to refund my money, I want you to........ Just kidding.

Thanks Al..... You can post here if you wish also.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!

Also what octane fuel do you use?
If you want, I can tune your flash a bit leaner - especially on the higher rpms and we can re-test it
I would like to see your car in the 10.8 to 11.1/ 1 range - this is what we shoot for - however - with tremendous car to car variance the a/f ratios do sometimes run a bit richer - we aim on the richer side - leaner can spell disater - especially on a car with a bad load of gas
Clearly - there is room to go much leaner on your car and pick up a few more whp - - - HOWEVER its stilll much leaner than stock so your gas mileage should have picked up - - ALL our base maps take out fuel from the stock settings

We DO NOT touch the part thottle and cruising modes on the ecu - it all remains totaly stock
WE ONLY reduce fuel on full load situations and alter the timing
No way our flash will decrese mpg's
i have black **** all over my back bumper, but i dont know why you would go from a dynoflash to a WORKS......anyways....i have black **** all over my back bumper....ohhh welll.... i use GOO gone to get rid of it.

The black "****" isnt an apperence issue. If it is that black back there, what does the rest of the exhaust system look like?
Plus I guess it fouls up your cat. and plugs after time.
So this goes out to anyone else with a mail in DYNOFLASH, is your exhaust caked in black grime? After looking at my air/fuel ratio numbers, how much higher could I expect to go without being too lean? And can it be done with a mail in flash?
I will post pictures of my exhaust tommrow,, clean , and then driven for 45 minutes or so. I think im in a spot here. Too lean--blow up the engine,,,,, too rich foul up your exhaust systems, leave hot spots.
So if this DYNOFLASH is leaner than stock,,, why did my stock exhaust, ecu never leave anywhere near the amount of black grime as it does now? Did my ralli-art drop in filter/Exhale get accounted for?
The other ecu tuners can chime in on this if they wish.
I have had my flash for about 2 weeks.
