I had my 5th gear syncro and shaft replaced recently under wrranty. 5000k miles in the car . It keeps grinding under high rpms 4500rps and above . below that it shifts fine. Also replaced my clutch OEM during the diassembly . clutched felt funny the when i first got the car so I just replaced it . I wanted an aftermarket unit .they said they could put it in but I would void my warrantee. So I stuck with the OE unit. They just charged me labor to put the clutch in and ressurfaced my flywheel . I think its worth it.

penzoils problems are soooo in the past, back in the day they had issues with their oils leaving build-ups, but that is so far in the past, to not use them now because of problems that long ago is like not buying an EVO because 2g eclipses with the 4g63 had crankwalk issues. Anyway, what i tried to say was that the new Penzoil synthetic tranny fluild is the GM Synchromesh, same stuff, just sold under the name Penzoil, and its gotta cheaper price tag then the GM stuff, even tho they are the exact same things. If you are still scared to use anything like that, then hop on RRE and buy the BF Synchroshift, that stuff does wonders!

I have grinded in 1st twice and 2nd gear twice. When I put 1st gear in from a stop, it seemed like it went in but once I let the clutch out it grinded. 2nd gear grinded when I went WOT. It just doesnt seem like the synchrose are engaging fast enough. I'm currently at 5500 miles.

That just sounds like a bonered gear selection, no offense. I know what you're talking about, but this is definitely bad synchros. Im still furious......

Morning,

Here's the skinny on what I know. I had a bad syncro and I took it back to the dealer. They rebuilt the transmission and replaced everything new.

I have no mods on the car and it was all covered by the warranty.

I had them inspect the clutch and they said that it had about 3-4,000 miles left, so they replaced it with OE. I had also asked about and aftermarket clutch and they said it would void the warranty. I just paid for the parts, which was fine.

Car is fine now, only thing is that I have re-evaluated my fluids and changing frequencies.

Car was in the shop for 2 weeks, mainly due to the availability of the parts.

id still recommend u to put in either gm synchromesh or MF Synchroshift fluid in the tranny. i can only speak for dsms's but it improves shifting on dsms's very noticeably.

Read my sig. Aftermarket part _cannot_ void the warranty unless it _specifically_ causes the problem.

Voiding the entire warranty for a clutch replacement = illegal.

Know your rights people.

I dont want to be charged anything to have the clutch put in....
should tell them its starting to slip and I'll negate the cost of them buying a clutch if they put the aftermarket one in for free?
