Turbo timer

Which turbo timers are people running these days? Ive read they arent necessary, but some knowledgeable people have told me they help save turbo life. Input?

I'm a fan of them, I run an HKS turbo timer and it works nicely. It also has a good digital speedo which helps since Mitsu thought it would be cool to put the regular speedo where you can't see it until you are doing 100+ mph. :P

They aren't nessissary, just make sure you don't rape your car and then immediately shut it off. Before you turn your car off just give it some time. Just my .02. I have seen a lot of people run the HKS ones for our cars tho

A turbo timer is absolutely necessary in my opinion. HOWEVER... it's really just based on your lifestyle.

If you are going to be raping your car and then need to get out of it super quick, perhaps you need a timer. But if you can sit there and wait for a hot minute to get the oil circulating... you probably don't need it.

With modern cell phones... I'm surprised so many people are running turbo timers. You could just play a level on angry birds or something...

how many OEM vehicles come with turbo timers??? thats the way I see it for 99% of the time.
My other car has a HKS.... and I don't use it anymore than a volt meter, but that was back in the day when leaving your car running was cool as you went into 7-11 or wawa lol (and that car just had an oil cooled turbo)

^none come with one, but how many oem cars were produced with the sole purpose in mind people would be beating them at a track or drag racing?

Also on another note none come with a turbo timer, but on a buddies 1g talon the sticker on the sun visor clearly states engine damage can occur if you do not allow the car to come to full operating temps before any hard driving, and it also states NEVER shut engine off after hard driving and to always allow the car to idle for a minute to cool off the turbocharger.

So is one needed? No not as long as you allow a few minutes of idle time before turning it off. If you don't have time like me when im running late for work then I suggest one. Sometimes you have to drive it hard and have no time to sit and wait so its a good investment, and if you haven't been beating the car wwith one touch of a button you don't have to waste the gas. On my hks once you take the key out if you don't want it to idle because you haven't beat on it one touch of a button shuts it off.

I have the Apex'i. I only really turn it on when I track the car. My appt is some distance from the highway so I couldn't beat on the car all the way home even if I wanted to.

TT are not needed for turbos that are water & oil cooled..coolant will continue to circulate after the car is shut off. I have one, but I don't use it. I tend to just idle for a minute after I've been driving on the freeway, mostly just to check messages.
