Blew ignition coil fuse with non COP kit
Hi everyone. I have a spoolinup kit installed for couple weeks now. Other day I turned the car off. Then got back in and would not start. I found I blew the factory 10amp igntion coil fuse.
I read a couple other posts that some people due to have this problem with non cop kits regardless of vendor. Is going to a 15amp fuse usually the norm to take care of this. I even saw one post Buschur mentioned running a 30amp which I am not comfortable with.
Just trying to get some feedback and see if this happened to others and their fix.
I spoke to Matt who was very helpful and said that should be fine running a 15a but to not go higher.
I just dont want to have to be worried about if the car is going to start every time I get in.
thanks

Fuses blow, as long as it doesn't keep blowing. Think about it factory uses a 10amp for the ignition but you also only have 2 coils. You add 2 more coils and have a stronger spark. While some get away with not having to replace the fuse others blew the fuse just driving around the block after adding a cop kit.
First thing I did after switching to a cop was replace the 10amp with a 15amp. You might be able to get away with just using a new 10 amp fuse.

Interesting thread. I also have a SpoolinUp COP kit. I've had it for about 6 months, with no additional grounding. Stock 10a fuse is holding strong. Subscribed to see if others post with similar problems.

This is exactly right! Doesn't matter on vendor here. 4 coils draws more than 2. Easy math and no it is not a common problem. I recommend a 15a fuse with my system only with the AEM. It seems the AEM puts more stress on the coils for whatever reason. Very rarely does this happen with a stock ECU; always looking to improve I'll go ahead and include a 15a for everyone!
