Tranny grind :/

So I literally got my Evo on Saturday and love it so far. However I got on it from first to second today and it was hard to go in to gear and made a slight grinding noise. I'm not a newb to the scene as I had a suby I built before as well as a lot of other cars and I wasn't really trying to slam it, just shift quickly. Is this basically the tranny saying "I'm done" or hopefully it just needs a trans flush? Any help would be very appreciated! Btw I'm a technician already so I'm not a total idiot I just know all cars are different and some are temperamental lol

Mostly the Syncro is gone and a trans flush wont do anything for you.

Welcome to the community... if you are going to get a rebuilt trans there are some really good companies that specialize in it (linked above already). I love my Sheptrans.

It's funny you mention that, I actually just got to play around with a friends brand new 2012 Cayman R and my first thought on trying out the shifting was how much I preferred my Sheptrans. I don't know if its the ISF coating, but the action of the shifting feels like an odd mix of solid and mechanical, and smooth like silk. It feels like a well oiled bolt action rifle.

Not neccesarily all transmission. What RPM were you shifitng at? What clutch is in the car? Incomplete clutch release causing lockout on the 1-2 shift will cause the hard to go into 2nd/grind issue.

The first clutch I installed in my Evo (CC Stage 2) was a lockout king at 7krpm and eventually did trash my synchros. Clutch adjustment also plays a role (enough travel to release completely). As does the weight of the clutch friction assy on the tranny input shaft, the heavier it is the more work the synchros have to do to get a smooth shift.

Well I bought the car from a dealer so I'm not sure what clutch is in it and I already checked my clutch adjustment and there isn't a lot of play in the pedal. Ive been having issues with all of the gears lately though. It just doesn't seem to want to go in even when cruising. I think I'm goin tk make the dealer fix it or something. I would like to just upgrade the tranny now but I just dropped my money on a down payment for the car so I'm a little strapped right now
