I don't see where ppl think this is pricey for a bb black. An hks 7460 is around $2300 most places you look so I personally don't think its that bad.

The other gain is actually a loss. The BB center section is lower friction than the journal bearing, so there is a LOSS in spool up time. It spools quicker and as you note....it lasts longer.

less money? Have you priced out a 3586 kit? As you stated, they're not the same turbo, but just buying a 3586 or 82 won't get you rolling.

then without notice spring this up on us.

This actually pisses me off more than excites me .
They should offer an upgrade to the customers that still have an existing warranty at a discounted price .. Ive had my black for 3 1/2 months . and its only been installed for 1.

If i wouldve known I wouldve waited and not had the possibility of an unreliable bearing .

(end rant .) lol
I understand what you are saying here, but I have a question. Before you bought the black did you ask Robert if there was anything new on the horizon?

I asked if there was a fix for any of the issues the people were having , because to my understanding theres to much load on the bearing . I was told that the problems were related to the oil that was used. Nothing was mentioned whether they were in developemnt of the new setup.

I understand that until full testing is completed they cannot really release comments to the public.

Its more that it would have been nicer to have a notice that they were in development to an alternative for longevity .

Spending 2k on a turbo that "might possibly last 2 years " Is a little hard to swallow.
Weve all seen garrett turbos with year of use and thousands upon thousands of miles survive harsh usage.
A personal friend did 80k miles on a 35r and he purchased it third hand.

Im sure every single one of the guys that purchased this turbo in the last 4 months would have considered waiting if they knew the ball bearing option was a few months away.

Once again.. I thank fp for the awesome turbo they have created but i just feel they couldve taken a different path of action.

If my turbo blows i will most definately be getting the bb black .. it just hurts to think ill have 4500 tied into the same turbo .

I'm just hoping that since these are out and the JB Black won't be offered any more that some of you will get rid of your JB Black for cheap!!

I honestly wouldn't worry about it until your current JB black fails. It's not worth stressing over. I understand your situation and would probably feel the same. Though I would have specifically asked if they had a new Black in the works since the JB version has been available for quite some time. He may not give you a direct answer, but if he said NO and then did this, then I'd be pissed. If you did what they recommend (oil line, proper oil, etc..) you should be fine. Just my opinion and I'm far from an expert. lol.

Used JB Blacks should be reasonably priced now for sure, especially if out of warranty. Glad I sold my JB Black before this BB unit came out. I'm tempted to look at a BB Red now. I got out of FP turbos because I was concerned about reliability on the track. That should be way less of an issue now.

Props to fp!! I've got their old green and love it. Once that goes I'm going to have to look into a bb green or red. I always wondered when a bb black on a stroked out 2.3 or 2.4 with e85 would hit full boost. I think that would be a really fun!!

I would like to see a HTA 35r bolt on kit and drive for 2400 or less.

And I do mean bolt it in with every thing needed to drive the car like you would if you bolted in a BB Black.

So $1k to upgrade my JP Black to a BB Black? I still want it

Hopefully Aaron can post the BB Green results, I'm really interested in those too. Especially on Luke's 2.4?
